Default Oil in water coolant bottle but no mayonnaise residue

hello members

I have an issue with a 2008 outlander 2.2DiD. I was driving along and suddenly the engine got instantly hot. I pulled over and let it cool. I was a mile from home so limped it in.

Now on inspection there is black black engine oil in the expansion tank and a lot of oil under the car including the exhaust.

The engine oil oil level is about 60% of normal. No mayo residue inside cap or or dipstick. Car turns over and fires immediately.

I have assumed head head gasket but someone told me it could be the oil cooler leaking and introducing oil
into the resivoir.

What do do you think?

The car car is my wife’s pride and joy. She even vacuums it out. Unusual I know.

Does anyone know the location of the engine oil
cooler.

Please help. Thanks in advance.
