If Mitsu offered the other engine choices in the states (the 2.4 gas and the 2.2 TD-I), what would you get? Would you still get the 3.0? Just curious. My .02 is I would get the 2.2 TD-I as my second outie.

I'd still get the 3.0, sweet little engine, awesome at the highway wich is most of my driving.

 

Mitsubishi will not bring the 2.2 diesel engine here. Although they will introduce a new diesel engine sometime in the future, but not the ones that are being used in the current EU Outlanders. Although the idea of 40+ MPG is very tempting, the sound of the engine and the amount of engine vibration could be a drawback for some.

 

personally, I never cared about power (hence bought TSX prior to Outlander), but once I got V6 (first one ever and I owned over 10 cars) it made me appreciate the smoothnessof the V6 engine. Love it!

 

Personally, as I said before I would get the diesel as a second choice or as a second Outie. I too love the V6 power (it feels way better than my old truck's V8). Now that I started this subject, I am wondering if the 2.2 TD-I they offer is a 4 or 5 cylinder? When I was TDY to Germany I had the chance to drive a Mercedes van with a turbo-5 and a stick tranny, boy that thing sounded weird, but it moved well. I'll check and see what I can find out.

It's a 4-cylinder 2.2L turbo-charged common-rail diesel sourced from the PSA-groups (Peugeot/Renault). They also used a four-cylinder 2.0L turbo-charged diesel sourced from VW here in Europe, but not sure if they'll keep offering it now that they have the 2.2L.

Sadly I won't be getting mine until November (they ran out of '07s, so have to wait for an '08), but from the reviews I have read it's a great engine. Get some chip tuning done andI should end up around 200hp and lots and lots of torque

In regards to 5-cylinder diesels, my dad has a '95 Audi A6 Avant (Stationwagon) with a 5-cyl 2.5L turbo-charged diesel, pretty cool with a diesel that tops 150mph and can get you 40mpg. If my new Outie diesel comes close to that, I'll be very happy

 

you WILL have a choice of the 2.4 liter next year.

and mitsu IS most likely bringing a diesel stateside around 2010.

 

My biggest reservation about buying an Outie is that it will be replacing a biodiesel-burning Mercedes. So it's kind of a step backwards in that sense. Of course the TDI would be my first choice. (I don't see it hitting 40's mpg US, but well into the 30's sounds reasonable.)

This late in the game, I'll probably be waiting another couple months to see how the 4-banger does (compared to the V6). And the '07s could become very aggressively priced by then.

 

You will get 40mpg in english gallons US gallon are larger so you will get more mpg of your US gallons.

Let me tell you the 2.0 d id diesel engine drives great plenty of torque at low speeds then the turbo kicks it works well with the 6 speed stick shift (manual) The new psa 2.2 litre will be about £1000 extra over the 2.0 litre VW unit. Both engines in the Mitsubishi Outlander will be sold in the range in the UK

Actually, one UK gallon is approx. 1.2 US gallon, so you'll get less MPG in the US. In regards to biodiesel, the 2.2L is made to run on up to 30% biodiesel as it is now (at least in the Citroen and Peugeot). I don't see why it won't run 100% synthetic diesel, but it remains to be seen if that will be produced in large enough volumes to be more than just added to "normal" diesel.
