Default outlander 06 hard to start

my outlander 06 is hard to start after refuelling.and when it does it idles up and down.have a check engine light on.try to refuell with motor running but when i remove the gas cap it stalled.
Im baffle...

Does it run/start perfectly when you start it except for when you refueled?

Can you get the check engine code scanned and post the code?

Is it only after refuelling or if you leave it and do a cold start do you have the same problem?

only after refuelling. got a code #0171 that said vaccuum leak

I wonder if your gas cap isn't sealing properly... Are you making sure you put it on tightly? Can you smell gas at all when it's closed?

Do you have the same problem then if you just take the fuel cap off when it's stood and simply put it back on then try and start?

the gas cap is always tight,no smell of gas.
to jimmyrinse did not try that but i will and post my answer later .thanks

did remove the gas cap and install it again and it started fine but then when i stopped at the end of the driveway it stalled and was turning awile before it started again.

Could have something to do with the evap system...
