Default Outlander 2007 MPG

Hi,

Yesterday I test drove the new 2007 Outlander, I was pretty impressed by this SUV. I do a lot of mileage so the fuel consumption is important for me. According to the specs the gas mileage is pretty good for this type of vehicle, but in real life what is look like? I know that there some old posts about this but this SUV is pretty new and I want to have new comment about that.

Thanks
Kafou

For me, initial mileage on a regular city drive is 17-18mpg within break-in and until about 2500mi. I drive lightly and speed limits on the roads I drive get only up to 45mph at the max. Same route most of the time. But recently when I was approaching 3000mi, my mileage had a gradual improvement, and I now get 22-24mpg on the same route.

It can look LIKE something else, but I wonder if those look-alikes can match the handling of the 07 Outlander. The ride and the amount of power is just the right mix, and the 6 speed auto-trans is so smooth you can't tell which gear you're on (okay except maybe 1st and 2nd). If Mitsu makes regular auto trans this smooth, I'd like to take a ride in that new Lancer with the CVT and see how it compares.

Interesting, rcpax. I'm at about 1200 miles, and am averaging almost 18 mpg. I was a little frustrated because it was lower than I had expected, but it's nice to know I can expect an increase after break in.

Just an fyi: You can register at www.fueleconomy.gov and record your own mpg online for others to see. Only one '07 Otlander on there now.

I don't think any SUVs get great gas mileage in real-world driving. A few of the turbo models are real gass guzzlers despite what the sticker says, check the Mazda CX-7 and Acura RDX forums for the stories.

My 07 only has about 1,500 miles on it so I'm still in break-in. I'm going about 250 miles of mixed city/highway driving before refilling with about 14 gallons. So I'm a little under 20mpg with my driving style, I don't baby it. The tank is kind of small, which makes the range pretty short.

Break-in is officially the first 500mi, but it may take more than that to "loosen" the engine
