RE: Outlander 2007 MPG
I now have 8200 on my 07XLS 4WD and now getting 26.3 MPG on the Hwy. It took about 3K in miles before I started to see the impovements in my MPG. I am getting better MPG than the advertise ratings. I am VERY impressed and pleased.

RE: Outlander 2007 MPG
I get about 22-24 city (just depending on terrain, and "stop and go") and I get between 26, and 30 on the highway... thats running 65-70, if I kick it up to 80, it drops off alot, to about 22-26. all depending on terrain
I too noticed the milage increase after a while, butmine happened closer to 4000 miles. But it was pretty much as RCPAX did,
One other thing, as in all cars, Running the A/C hurts your milage alot, seems to be a little worse than what I would consider "average" on the outie.
I have an 07 outlander xls, without 4wd.
Oh, and while we are on the subject, Use the little "average milage/actual milage" thing as a good base, but dont trust it to closely, I think mostly its based on throttle postion. Because If you are running say 50mph, in shifttronic mode, and click the paddles down one, or two gears, without moving your foot at all, the fuel mileage wont change, even though the RPMS do.
However if you click up into 6th gear at 45mph, and floor it, the fuel mileage wont go below the bottom mark, whereas it will in any other gear...
if that helps?

RE: Outlander 2007 MPG
I was looking at the ford escape at the dealer before I bought my outlander. It seems alittle behind in styling in my opinion. I wasnt impressed by how anything was set up when I sat in the drivers seat. A car has to win my over by first looks. If it doesnt catch my eye and have that something that stands out then I move on. I also looked at the hybrid model. The battery is huge!!! I would also hate to see what happens to the people inside if that thing gets rear ended by a 18 wheeler. The escape doesnt get as good gas mileage correct?

Yeah, I was gonna comment on that, but figured, let the blind lead the blind...
Weight is the single largest contirbutor to either good, or poor gas mileage.
If you weigh very little, the motor has to work very little to pull your car.
If you weight alot, the motor has to work alot to pull your car.
Take for instance this. My 03 F150, gets about 16 mpg regardless of city, or hwy. throw a trailer and a bobcat on it, and it gets around 10, or less...
Same with the outie. Normally, it gets about 24 or better on the highway. Fill it up with me, the wife, her sister, our three kids, and bam... 18-22
