Default Outlander Jura PHEV phev issue

Good afternoon all

At least it is here in the UK!

We have a 2017 Outlander Jura PHEV which generally drives like a rollerskate to our delight.

However whilst out in it last week I noticed a little "!" In the dashboard display and suddenly realised that the petrol engine was running even though there was charge in the battery.

This particular model has the heater driven from the engine not the battery so it is not unusual for us to have the engine running in the urban cycle in the winter to warm the car up but not all the time.

Looking at it today I cannot engage the battery to drive the car even though the battery is now fully charged.

This seems to me to be likely to be a broken relay or a fuse?

Can anybody point me to the right place before I book it it into the garage?

TIA (thanks in advance)

Andy

Sorry, Nunhead. It seems most on this board are U.S. and Canadian owners, and the PHEV is new to this market just last year. Not much experience with it here, although I did a test drive and liked it. Good luck with your problem.

Well it's Nunhead_man here!

And lo and behold I think I just realised what was wrong.

Would you believe the car was complaining that the petrol in the petrol tank was too old and was asking for a top-up of 15 L because of this.

Because the battery didn't seem to be driving the wheels much I popped into a garage and tanked up and lo and behold the EV option came back all by itself.

This is an interesting version of the well-known UK trouble of using exhaust systems with absorption systems which unless you give them a blast and every now and again you lose power.

Yet another piece of learning with this rather nice vehicle

Best to all,

Andy

That makes perfect sense, actually. When I test-drove a PHEV we were doing a walk-around and the car was parked, but the engine was running. And I asked why the engine would be running if it's just sitting there. The salesman told me that the engine will run to burn off fuel if it's been in the tank for too long.

Good morning

"engine will run to burn off fuel if it's been in the tank for too long"

Okay….I thought that petrol going out of date was an urban myth?

Not a myth, I we don't put fuel stabilizer in the snowblower or lawn mower, when they are put away for the off season they would never start the next time you need it.
