Outlander Questions
Hi everyone!
I am in the market for a new car. I am looking hard at a Mitsubishi Outlander. I am looking into getting the 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. Is the 2.4L 4 cylinder engine enough to power this car or should I consider the V6 instead? The Mitsubish Outlander I buy will be getting me to work in the snow too. Mainly the snow I see is slush/ice and some times a good 5 inches of snow will fall. Five inches of snow is not something which happens all the time. Would a FWD Mitsubishi Outlander be good in ice/slush or should I get the AWD Outlander?

I can't stand any gutless vehicle. Unless you're the dawdling in the passing lane while texting, stopping at yield signs, type. In which case you shouldn't be driving anyway, but that's who I find typically drives the I4.

if you can find an AWD V6, grab it.
- It is an animal with good tires and AWD. Better than my Ranger (without rear weights).
- You can still go into 2wd mode if you want some fuel economy
- AWD is easier on your tires when running around town with little impact on economy.
- the V6 does not come with CVT...that's a plus!

Do you happen to have a source for that information?
I was under the possibly mistaken impression that "pavement" mode is indeed FWD only.
Thanks.

Obsevation of my XLS on wet glare ice, all the wheels spin even in Tarmac mode.
There is not much torque going to the back that's why glare ice showed it, the car had difficulty moving forward until the wife rolled back to idle and it picked up.
Lock would have been a betterchoice but I was not driving.
Also on Edmund there was a thread on S-AWC some time ago.
The S-AWC setup is similar to the evo minus the rear lockable diff.and the evo is always in awd.
