Outlander Sport can not tow?
I have a 2019 Outlander Sport and the owners manual says not to tow anything with my car. It is a 2019 Outlander Sport se with a 2.4 and awd. I have looked around a little bit and nobody has been able to tell me why. I see that there are hitches made for it. Any answers?

Towing capacity is a paperwork issue on one hand and a technical issue on the other hand.
Car manufacturers must go through some approval / homologation processes in order to declare and register the towing capacities of their models.
Why they don't do it for some models, I don't know.
It might be because the extra costs are not justified compared to how many customers would like to tow with that model or they have some fears regarding a possible higher number of worn-out/broken parts which they must cover on warranty (=> again... extra costs) or maybe it is an eco/green compliance issue (towing = pollute more = don't fit in the declared limits).
I don't know....
If there are hitches available for the car then you can do some research among the older models with the same platform, engine, gearbox and breaks and see what was the towing capacity of those, so that you know the limits.
Legal and insurance issue is another thing, which you can ignore or not depending on how strict are the laws and tech inspections in your area.
I would put a hitch on that car, at least for a bike carrier, if not for towing.
But it would also look nice with a teardrop camper behind

Yes, for sure. Do not tow anything with the CVT, Adding a hitch for a bike rack would be fine.
