The answer to your question is not so simple that anyone can answer in a short response. The word "fit" you used has a broad interpretation. I suspect you were rather asking what size wheels can be mounted. Many wheels that can be mounted are not necessary a safe fit. The OEM parameters are the following: 7J18 ET38 (6.5x16 ET38) 5x114.3 mm, 67.1 mm
Mitsubishi Outlander wheels have some parameters that are absolutely imperative to match to be able to mount them, others can be modified but you will alter the suspension geometry (stability) up to a point that you may not be able to use them. And some alterations can be made mountable by using spacers.
1.) You will absolutely need to look at wheels that have a mounting pattern of exactly 5x114.3 mm.
2.) The center bore (CB) on Mitsubishi Outlanders/Lancers/ Outlander Sports is 67.1 mm. You cannot mount a wheel that has a smaller center bore. It is not advised to mount wheels that have larger CB either but you may purchase adapter rings to maintain the bore centered arrangement. When you buy aftermarket wheels generally the center bore is larger, so it can be mounted on many vehicles (notice that I did not use the word fit).
3. You cannot mount a wheel that has an inner diameter smaller than 16" without very thick wheel spacers that would make the tire stick out and would be illegal to use without modified wheel arch. This is needed to accommodate the brake rotors and calipers. Whether you use a 16, 17, 18 inch wheel primarily depends on your priorities (you still have to use a proper combination of diameter, width, and offset though (see later)). If you live in area where there are lot of potholes the smaller wheel diameter could be a better choice for ride quality and durability but people tend to care for more the look (larger wheels are more fashionable these days and people say they handle better but this is another Pandora's box I do not wish to open here). Even some 22" wheels are mountable (though with paper thin sidewall profile tires). Smaller diameter wheel is also more advantageous for winter and if you are offroading.
4) The width of the OEM wheel is 7" (if equipped with an 18" OEM wheel) or 6.5" (if equipped with a 16" stock wheel). To chose the width you have some flexibility but you may want to choose a combination with the other parameters (offset of the wheel and width and sidewall height of the rubber).
The ultimate tool you have to use and check the wheel/tire combinations is found here. This site list the wheel tire combinations that can be safely mounted to your vehicle. In the same website you can browse for vehicles by make/model year/model that have wheels that match the above listed parameters and or you can use the former link to try the variable parameters as to whether they would yield to a safe replacement for the OEM wheel/tire package.

If you look at the links I just provided you will se that the wheel of a Ford Ranger can only be considered if it is from 2012 or older model. Moreover, there are several OEM wheels available for those. You can only opt for the 16" or larger wheels. The mounting pattern is OK, the center bore is larger than that of the Outlander, so mountable but not optimal. The offset is much smaller (12 mm) resulting in wider stance introducing positive scrub radius. You might want to look at certain Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Jeep models in the provided link. Some of those have wheels that are pretty close matches.
