Hi all,

I have a 2012 ZH Outlander auto and after 7 years the battery just died this morning which is ok because they don't normally last that long. So after swapping it out and starting the car I went to reverse it out of the driveway but it wouldn't go anywhere. It goes into reverse (the sound of the engine is normal) and it has the R displayed, but the car won't go backwards. The engine light has also come on for the first time and is staying on. It does go forward but I've driven it about 10 feet so not sure how it will go on the road.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has suggestions?

the transmission selector is directly under the battery/tray - check to see if something fell down there
or maybe a connection got wiggled loose or maybe some battery acid leaked on the wiring harness

just possibilities

 

After a bit of searching I found a video of a guy resetting the ECU on a Lancer and thought I'd give it a go and it work, I could drive again. I contacted the local dealer yesterday and they said I had done the right thing and that over the next few days my car would 'learn' who I liked to drive it again. So far no problems.
