Default Po401 fault

what can i do to clear this fault? what is it exactly?

Just doing a google search, looks like its a EGR emissions issue. Possibly the EGR valve might need a cleaning. Not sure what Outlander you have?

I have the 2.4 so not familiar with that motor. Seems like the best course of action would be to clean the passages and test the components. It could even be a faulty sensor reading the flow incorrectly and not the EGR itself.

i tried to take it off yesterday but i could not get access to two of the bolts they are in a very difficult place. it was covered on the outside with carbon though so i think that the inside will be quite bad if its on the outside.

Ah bummer, sometimes you have to remove other parts to get access. Not really sure on this motor.
