Default Rear License Plate Bolt Holes

Just got an 07 XLS...love it. Noticed that the holes for the rear plate (lower) do not line up with the holes on the car. As a result, the plate rattles around every time I open and close the liftgate because the bottom is not secured. Any idea how to secure the bottom? Is there an adapter? Thanks.

My wife got one of those license plate frames that's all fancy...and it rattled around a lot. I took some spare weather stripping (foam with adhesive strip on one side) and stuck that to both the license plate and the license plate frame. I don't think it is the greatest of ideas, but it doesn't rattle around anymore.

I used a strip of velcro tape. Don't know if it will ever come off but the plate hasn't rattled since.

Did you have to use their frame or would it work with any LP frame? Thanks

I got some hard foam, cut it in half inch thick slices, and used duct tape to attach it to the back of the license plate. That took care of the rattle. The secret to making this work so the foam doesn't fall out is to completely cover the foam with the duct tape. I did this several months ago and even with weekly washing the car where water is sprayed around the license plate the tape has held the foam in place.

No, I do not use their frame. I actually bought a big role of the stuff and used it all around my Outlander. I cut a piece the size of the plate, and stuck it to the back of it. The link I provided is just for one piece already cut to the size of the plate. You can use your own frame, or none if you want.
