Rear view camera in under an hour

Rear view camera in under an hour
I installed this camera I bought on ebay. It took only an hour and works great. Attaches right on top of license plate. Routed the video cable to the center consoles a/v inputs. Tapped in the power connection to the back side of the rear 12v outlet and I'm done. Too bad I can't keep the Aux video displaying once Istart moving. Anyone know of a work-around?

The rear camera helps, it lets you see things you might othewise miss: a kid on a tricycle, a skateboard on the ground, a valet stand that is just low enough to make it invisible through the rear window (I hit one already before I installed my camera, $300 repair), a low parking barrier etc.
It is a great addition that will easily pay for itself the first time you avoid accidentally hitting something. Plus, it's cool.

I will be getting a 2008 Outlander & I hope it comes with a back up camerawhenyou buythe nav.....
But just in case it doesen't could you take a picture of the ports in the console and give the name of where you bought the backup camera.....
Thanks......

The camera in this thread only works when you switch to the AV mode, so it won't show anything on the screen until the MMCS has fully booted up. It doesn't come on when you put the transmission in reverse, and you can't have the grid overlay that helps show how close you are to other objects.
There's a sticky thread at the top of the forum with instructions, part numbers etc. for installing a back-up camera that automatically displays on the head unit when you put the transmission into reverse. It shows up even if the MMCS hasn't fullybooted up, and it also has the grid overlay on the screen. It's a little harder to install, but there are some real benefits. Mine was less than $50.

RE: Rear view camera in under an hour
If anybody in the UK wants one of these licence plate cameras I have one brand new in the case which I'll sell cheap with 1 day delivery.
Or if you want to be adventurous have a flush mount camera fitted into the spoiler
