Default RES LCD problem

Hey gurus.

The LCD on my 2007 with RES has started to act up. It comes on as you open it, but turns back off when fully flipped down. Move it back up slowly, and it comes on right before it closes.
Anybody ever taken it apart? have any ideas? I assume there is a single switch (little one on the driver side on the base part) that causes the LCD to light up/turn off. So my guess is there is a loose cable inside. Before tearing into it I thought I would ask here.

That's right. You must open the RES and see the flat cable inside (like as IDE cable), it may be damaged and require repair or replacement.

Saludos. . .

Default Update

Got it out and apart. The ribbon btw the LCD and player was broken where the two parts fold. Seems to be wear related...did some digging on the numbers on it Z02 FPC MONI NAN241L872. Seems to be used in other RESes.

Some more digging.. I found a MOLEX ribbon that seems to be the same. 40pin 0.5mm spacing (N+1)*0.5mm width=~2cm comes in 152mm length...one on it is ~110mm. Stay tuned. I hope the length isnt too much....I also ordered the 102mm length version as well. at <=$5 each (cost more to ship than buy) why not check both.

Default molex ribbon

Hi jbatchelor51,

Did the molex ribbon work? Where did you buy the molex ribbon from?

Yup it works.

98266-0435 Molex FFC / FPC Connectors

note the cable is a little long and the placement of the contacts. The original on mine had contacts on the same side. I assume all are this way. The P/N above has contacts on same side of ribbon, but they sell one with contacts on the opposite side as well.

So far so good with this one. Since its long, I am curious how it will handle repeated open/close (flex).

Default Update to RES

So the new cable experienced the same issue. It seems the LCD can fold down so far before stopping that it can crease the cable. Lucky I had another...and did some filing to make the slots for it larger so it cannot be crimped again. But putting it back in...I fear I shorted something out (dang low humidity cold nights). The DVD motor runs just fine..but there is no Power lights nor LCD. Looking through the fuse diagram, I can't seem to figure out which one its on. Seems like its not getting keyed power. The DVD stays active without the key in, but the unit only runs when the key is on/ACC. Before I start pulling various fuses looking for it, thought I'd ask here to the experts.

I do not want to think that its dead..but it could be if static didnt ground correctly..ug... New on is like $2k..unless someone knows some place good.

This is the model fitted by Mitsubishi UK. The retail on this isn't as scary as you mention, although you would have to get it shipped stateside.
