Shifting into reverse on steep slope

Shifting into reverse on steep slope
The other day I was going down into a parkade(very steep downhill slope). The card reader wasn't working properly so I had to reverse out. I had my foot on the brake and put the Outlander into reverse and it made this awful clunk+grind noise. Everything appears to still be running fine, no leaks, etc. Concerned on the cause and what kind of damage could have been caused?
Reversed like this in tonnes of other automatics and standards, but never a vehicle with the type of tranny(too tired to think of the name) the Outlander has. Adleast we have an awesome warranty... but this really didn't sound good.

I haven't had it happen to me this loud in other vehicles, oddly enough. I do remember a slight grinding shift with a manual car I had though, but it just sounded like when you shift without your foot fully on the clutch pedal.

Have had it with every vehicle that I have ever drove that had an automatic transmition. HINT: when parking on a slope use the "parking brake" to help out. I do this and it reduces/eliminates the clunk sound.
