Default Should I buy an Outlander?

Having had a lot of problems with my Freelander2 I am looking at something different. So If I buy a new or nearly new Outlander what is the general view on reliability of Mitsubishi kit and dealer service. One thing about Land Rover is that their product support is very good (LR Assist) and the dealers are very good, the problem is that Freelanders in my experience are generally unreliable and the replacement Discovery Sport is ridiculously expensive. So how do Mitsubishi compare?

Well the newer models come with a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty, 5 years roadside assistance and a 10 year power train warranty so you are protected for quite a long time.

I've used both the road side assist when I got myself stuck and the PT warranty when I was in for a recall and the stealership noticed a leaking axle seal. I paid nothing for either service.

I get most of my non-warranty maintenance at an independent shop but the dealer I was at was nice and I am sure every dealer is different. You can go chat with he service guys before you buy if you want to make sure they are friendly and helpful in your area.. They seem to be about as competent as any dealer though.

As far as reliability I have a '10 Outlander XLS with about 65k miles on it (100,000ish km) and the only problems I have had were covered by a recall and a dead battery.

I've never owned or driven a Land Rover before and I know nothing about the Discovery Sport so I can't actually compare them but I do love my Outie.

I have an 07 model with 175k miles / 280+km on it. Things are now starting to wear. Did tie rods last year. Next month I do control arms. Other than that, as long as you keep up on maintenance, pretty good.

I'very recently bought a Subaru. I really like the features and safety. Might want to give them a look as well. When the Outtie kicks the bucket, might replace with another Subbie.

I've got both a 14 and a new 16 outlander. Both are the 2.4L motors which are just fine. The GT models with the V6 do have more power and leather and other feature functions but if you check out my Galactica build thread, you'll see there are aftermarket power options. I do like the new upgrades and sound insulating they did on the 16 models. Been very happy so far.

Default Depends

I just got a 16 GT. It's the wife's daily driver as we needed a 7 seater that was as small as possible for city driving. Not a lot of choices in that respect. It really depends on what you need. If you take away size and 7 seat capability, your options open up considerably. Would I have gotten an Outlander if we didn't have those specific needs? Maybe. I have different needs for a car than the wife so it really depends on what her whims are. I'm satisfied with the car and it has a 5 year warranty which is best in class. High safety ratings as well. Pretty good for our family hauling needs. Cars are so good now and there is great parity so it really depends on what little features or characteristics appeal to you. Coming from an LR, again depends on what you liked about it. Reliability-wise Mits are rated middle of pack and LR's are on the low side but the differences are much smaller than in the past. I like the fact that Mits is willing to back up their reliability claims with the warranty. The low risk pick is the one that everyone buys (e.g. Toyota, Honda). Mits is definitely a niche vehicle. Depending on the person that can be good or bad. Sorry if that was a non-answer.

I believe that Mitsubishi gives you the most bang for your hard earned money. You can not beat a 5 Year Bumper to Bumper Warranty + all the other coverage Mitsubishi gives you. I had my complete exhaust system replaced from the engine to the muffler for $0 dollars out of my pocket and I have a 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS

The Outlander will have nothing on the luxury of a New Disco but it is also $20 grand less.

I have owned 5 Outlanders and own/owned a couple Jaguar XFs

I have driven the new Disco and the The wimpy Ford turbo 4 is a dog.

If you are considering an Outlander coming from a LR, the only model you will be happy with is the GT S-AWD.

They are very reliable and the price compared to any of the competition in class is very good, but it is not as capable off road as the LR.

As with service, all dealers are different, if you have a good one local, you are going to have a good ownership experiance.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but why did you have it replaced? Was it rust issues? I noticed the exhaust on my '12 (a former Michigan car) is rusting like crazy.

I Bought mine in Aug a 2015 SE Copper in Color. I Really Like it! And I Have a 10year Bumper To Bumper warraunty . And that Hard to Beat. And it's A lot Cheeper then any AWD or 4WD out there. And if you get a SEL model with All the Goodies it's Still Cheeper then a Land Rover. Mitsubishi is the Way to Go!
