Default Spark plugs

I own a 2012 Outlander with a 2.4L DOHC 4cyl. engine and was wondering why spark plug prices vary so much. They range from $3 all the way up to $21 a piece!! Can anybody recommend which one I should use for my vehicle? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Chris

Probably the fact that you can buy el cheapo plugs that will last around 20k or if you buy the more expensive platinum tipped plugs you will get around 100k out of the set.

I used to have a Mitsi Diamante and to get to the back 3 plugs the manifold and **** had to come off so was a lot of work, therefore I would splash out and buy the expensive plugs that will last 5 times longer than the standard plugs and not have to worry about the expense and hassle to change the plugs after 20k.

I also noticed Iridium plugs for sale to. I wonder if it will hurt or help my economy (mpg). I'm willing to go with the more expensive plugs if it will help. The dealer quoted me $18 per plug which makes me wonder what kind they use...I did notice some plugs for sale at Napa for $20, they were Iridium to. Arg...decisions decisions. Thank you! Chris

Not sure what 2.4 come with, but 3.0L comes with iridium tips. That is why first service for plugs was 105k miles on mine. It would be very unwise to go with copper plugs and go through that mess every 20-30k miles.

Thank you all for the help! Come to find out my Outlander DOES take the $20 spark plugs. I guess it's because they have to be Iridium plugs, all I have to say is thank goodness I only need four! It has the 2.4L DOHC motor in it. After removing the cover, the plugs look relatively easy to remove. Thank you all again for the info. Chris

They may be 4 times dearer than standard plugs but they will at least last 4 to 5 times longer than them standard plugs so over time is much more economical in the long run.

Iridium is what you should be using..nothing else AFAIK...the Owners Manual is the best source of information...mine says to change them at 160,000 KM ( 100,000 miles) seems like 25$ per plug is a good deal for something that keeps your vehicle running well for that length of time..Just my opinion.
