well... finally it's here, the 2008 model with automatic gearbox and petrol engine. i took it for a drive after checking out the new X-Trail and 2008 Outback.
what i noticed immediately: no any new soft touch finish as you get in the NA, the same matte plasticky dash as the 2007. anything else is virtually the same. i played with the paddle shifters for a minute losing interest for good
. the CVT action is not as smooth as in my ex-Honda HR-V, which was smooth as silk - no jerking at all, but it's okay, guess it's just the nature of this transmission.
no AUX in. whaaaaatttt!! is it doable?? the MMCMSMC (or whatever
) is the same with the lores screen but okay. the backup camera is nice.
the ride is still excellent, hugs the road like a train and i have one reserved for me (to be delivered some time in November).

okay. i went to see the BT handsfree. not so suprisingly the sales guy had no idea what i was talking about
it's all voice commanded, no regular phone type directory in the MCMSMCS. it took 10 minutes for the guy with a terrible accent to save one entry into the phonebook
if and when i get the Outlander i will definitely go aftermarket, both - handsfree and head unit.

the factory handsfree system in the outlander isnt all that bad IMHO
the voice enrollement for the system is however cumbersome in a sense that you need to invest some quiet time to be able to finsh the voice training prompts and commands
once finished though, phone pairing and handsfree operation is very intuitve

yes, i understand all this but wouldn't it be possible to sync the phonebook over generic BT sync profile like most modern handsfrees do?
i'm not being bitchy, i really like the Outlander, everything else is perfect but the MCMSMCSS/HF.
