Tires
If anyone wouldn't mind sharing opinions on tires for the Outlander 4WD it would be appreciated. My 10' Outie has 255/55/18R Goodyear Eagle LS2's with only 9K on them. Dry traction is good but wet traction and stopping is terrible.
I think you meant 225/55R18 tires.
The tires may be selected according the use. If you are on tarmac more than 70% of use then a normal all seasons may be OK. If you are off of tarmac or snow, mud, gravel, sand, etc 70% of use then you may need All Terrain tires M+S.
I bought an Outlander 2010 GT and I fitted it with Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S tires on it (i.e. 225/55R18). They are very good on snow and mud. They are also very noisy.
The criteria I use to order tires are the pattern of their grooves. Five circumferential grooves are optimal with the centre groove segmented (similar to the Geolandar) so the tire can cut the water clean. You may need to go to some tire specialist firms (e.g. tirerack, 1010 tires, etc) to look for yourself the tire grooves that more compare with the Geolandar.
There is not a clear cut about selecting tires profiles. My wife fit her car with very cheap tires (Maxim) and they have shown very good indeed; good grip and durable.
