Default USB port for factory headunit?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Mitsubishi Outlander LS in Canada.

I was wondering if there's a USB add-on so I can listen to my MP# song from a usb key instead of transfering them on a CDs..

I know there's an AUX inputs, but i'm looking for something that can read off my USB memory stick.

I dont want to invest into a aftermarket headunit.

Thanks all!

Congrats on the purchase!

If you have navigation (MMCS), then you can buy an iPod cable that lets you control the iPod and view the song on the screen. For the non-NAV, there is nothing except AUX.

I don't know if the US only FUSE system is available on non-NAV, but that is a factory option that gives you iPod control + USB flash drive support.

I cant understand why Mitsubishi dont offer that option...

Yeah I guess if you really want to add it, you might as well buy a 3rd party replacement NAV from China for about $600 and get all those features+NAV. It doesn't work with the Bluetooth steering buttons, but wheel audio controls do. It's pretty much plug and play and takes 30 mins to install.

You might be able to find a RCA-to-USB cable jack that may work for your MP3 player.

Default Anyone tried this?

Waiting for my 2010 Outlander without the navigation unit and i was wondering if anyone knows if there are any RCA-connections on the back of the head unit?

I was looking at this adapter, has anyone tried it?

No, there are no RCA connections in the back...so that wouldn't work. You should have ordered the car with the FUSE system if you are in the US, as its very much worth it (USB, iPod, and Bluetooth full integration).

I believe all newer Outlanders have AUX in standard in the back of the armrest under the plastic door. If yours doesn't for some reason, you have plenty of cheaper and better choices.
The easiest OEM solution is part MZ360136EX, which gives you a headphone plug to plug the iPod into. You can get it for ~$40:

There is also the part that allows you to install RCA jacks in the back of the armrest (can't recall the part number).
So just get something like the above and $5 iPod charger and it should work.

Thank you for your fast reply. I´m in Sweden and Mitsubishi decided to not offer the FUSE system here so i´m stuck with the passive AUX solution... I cant navigate the ipod from the head unit (of course) and there is no power to charge the ipod in the armrest so i´m looking for a solution that both power the iPod and transfer the sound preferable in one cable (iPod connector cable) so i can mount the iPod on the dashboard.

There are cradles that plug into the front cigarette lighters (like under the A/C controls), which hold the iPod and charge it at the same time.
That is the best way to do it, since any other solution would require complicated wiring (apart from installing the above kit, you would need to hide a 12V to 5V converter as well).
If you can find a product that gives the stereo proper AUX input, I can help you find a 12V source for the charging part. However, it would involve soldering/crimping at the very least. However, full wiring diagrams are available.

RCA to USB? impossible...

I also have RCA plug on the armrest on my 2009 LS. But I've not tried yet. Since my goal is not to play MP3 from a player device like an Ipod.

I want the head unit to read mp3 directly from the USB drive.

Might just go toward the Outlander China Headunit afterall...
