Default USB port kit

I am going to install the usb port in the center console. My question is will I have to have the port activated in the vehicle computer via a MUT III, or will it work without having the computer being told that it has been installed?

I all ready have the hands free bluetooth module installed.

The vehicle is a 2012 Outlander GT.

I am about to do the same upgrade.

The real usb port is on the BT module, so the one inside your armrest after upgrade is just a wire usb extension. So I believe, once installed the BT kit, the usb functionality is there, but not able to connect since the USB kit is not installed....remember you didn't need to do anything to activate the bt module?

Besides, USBs should be all plug-&-play, like all usb devices used on PCs....

Please correct me if i were wrong....

There's no activation requirement from the installation instruction, and mine work perfectly once i installed and hooked the negative wire back....

Each BT module had a different part number for each year's outie, i am guessing the module you installed was not for a 2012 Outie, hence need a MUT III activation...

The BT module was part of the sale. My (former) dealer supplied the module and I paid them for the installation. I would hope that they knew the difference between a 2012 from their stock and some other year.

that being said, I return to my original question, with an addition.

Does the USB port kit require ETACS activation and is a new arm rest well required?

When you say that no activation is necessary, are you referring to the USB port kit or the BT module?

I've given you clear answer about the BT above. Since I have not yet done the USB part, I am not sure about that but I believe no activation needed. If you've got the Kit, you should be able to see if activation is needed from the installation instruction.
