Default Used Outlander-Need Advice

Thinking about buying a used 2003 Outlander XLS with 90,000 miles on it, dealer is asking 8900. Anyone here put a lot of miles on their Outlander? I drive about 800 miles every week (mostly highway miles) and I need something that I will be able to put probably 200 thousand miles on without major problems. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

I live in the Phoenix Arizona area and went on www.edmunds.com to look up used cars prices here for an 03 Outlander. I found an XLS model with 115,000 miles for $8995, and another XLS with 131,500 miles for $9495. Based upon these 2 the $8900 the dealer is asking for an XLS with 90,000 miles seems fair, but you may want to look up prices in your area to be sure.

I also subscribe to Consumer Reports, but their ratings only go back to 2004 models. For what it's worth the 2004 Outlander is rated very reliable. Also the 2nd generation Outlanders (2007 and up) are rated above average on reliability by Consumer Reports

Since you intend on keeping this vehicle for another 100,000 miles it might be worth it to have an independent mechanic check out the Outlander you are thinking about buying. Good Luck...

If you care about horsepower then I would look for 2004-2006 Outlanders as the first year release 2003 Outlander had a 2.4L engine with 144HP where 2004-2006 Outlanders had the engine HP upped to 160HP where MPG remained basically the same. Last year a friend of mine purchased a 2004 Outlander XLS for $9000 (had about 70K miles) here in NJ at local dealership.

EDIT: I like to search for used vehicles using Yahoo Autos http://autos.yahoo.com/ search for used Outlanders and see what will come up in your area.
