Default Vibrating noise

I have a 2007 Outlander XLS. When you put the car in gear and accelarate I hear a metal vibrating noise from under the car. It also happens when you come to a stop. Doesn't happen continously but more frequently.

Any clue as where this noise is coming from.

Does it sound like a piece of sheet metal hitting against the car or body or another piece of metal? Sounds like an exhaust heat shield has came loose and will vibrate when the car is under acceleration, therefore exhaust gas flow faster and the heat shield will hit against the exhaust itself. If you can, just look under your car, (Outlander is kinda tall, so you can see it quite good), then find the piece of loose sheet metal. Just rip it out, you probably dont need it for normal daily drivers. I removed mine because it was doing the same thing.

It doesn't sound like hitting the car or body. Just like the metal sound grrrr. I can feel it coming from underneath. It happens only when you come to a stop and also when you accelerate.

Have you tried looking under the car and checking nothing is loose - probably a good place to start. As already mentioned, heat shields on exhaust commonly rattle. Just pull it off if that is the cause.

Yes it was the shield. I got it out and the noise stopped. Thanks for all the inputs.

heh, had this happen today. Wife was saying for the past week that there was a rattle, but could never reproduce it.

bent the shield a bit away from the pipe...no more rattle. when the other side rusts apart, then the shield is no longer my problem!
