Default Want to buy an 07 Outlander tomorrow

I`ve exhausted my options, and have pretty much settled on an 07 Outlander XLS. I`m in Canada and a fully loaded XLS is going to cost me just under $40,000 CAN.

The things I don`t like are:

- No mention of Sirus or XM radio functionality with the nav
- No back up camera
- Cheap feeling HVAC buttons
- Plain plastic door panels

Things I like:

- Best bang for the buck, overall. simple and plain. This thing has everything other SUV`s in the $50,000 CAN range have.

I`ve done some reading on this forum, but I`m not sure where the satellite radio is at. Any other complaints, concerns, etc. I should be looking at before I commit?

1. In my US version, I press the MODE button on the nav, and hit Sirius. I got a free 6 month trial when I bought the car.
2. There is detailed instructions at the top of the forum on how to install a camera to the navigation, and the camera was like 200 dollars.
3. HVAC buttons seem fine to me, but I'm coming from a Ford.
4. You can buy chrome door handles to spice things up a bit.

If it doesn't mention it, then probably it's not there. To me, Sirius is just another radio option. I could have actually lived without it if, say, 1000US$ will be slashed off my original purchase price, because at the moment it does not offer the ability to do live traffic stats. Getting to where you want is one thing, but more importantly, getting there on time and not sit on traffic polluting the environment. But since it came as a package which I got for a very good discount at that time (almost at time of US launch), I can't complain.

My take on the camera, they can probably make things better by offering it as an aftermarket OEM accessory, but keep it off the package, because then, the vehicle price will get jacked up some 500$. Some people, myself included, can actually live without it, and I would have still turned my head on reversing anyway, because it's the law, and also because that wide angle camera does not cover all the blindspot.

I truly cannot complain with the HVAC controls, but of course I would have wanted the similar rubber feel of the 4WD selector **** on the controls.

And with all these little annoyances, Mitsubishi actually made a good vehicle overall. Ample power and handling, decent V6 mileage, yet affordable enough for the middle class family. So if the dealer got the color and specs you wanted, I say go for it.

I'll do my comparsion with TSX

1. I have Sirus in my US version XLS and it's adissapointment. Mostly because either antenna is weak or reception is spotty. It keeps cutting out when driving in dense tree area. XM did not do that in my TSX.

2. While I wishedit had backup camera I have no issues with backing it up despite being a bigger car. I might install aftermarket, but at this point I don't see any reason for it

3. Controls are fine and I am already used to them. I actually prefer them better tothen the ones in TSX.

4. Plastic doors will grow on you. Again, I am coming from TSX and that did not feel like a downgrade by no means.

Went in and signed the papers today. Should be a fully loaded XLS with navi, in graphite grey. No ETA on delivery yet, should know tomorrow. Talked down the price by about $2000 CAN with lifetime oil changes. I noticed the AC cycles alot when I took one for the last test drive today, something I've read about on here and have also noticed in many Chryslers. Kind of annoying, but adleast its cooling effectively.

I have Sirius on my Canadian Outie (see this thread especially Post 13 on)but you can't get Sirius as a factory option in Canada... yet. You can buy the Sirius tuner from any dealer and then you need to get the dealer to change the coding on the ETACS-ECU to recognize it (its on the CAN bus like a lot of other stuff). A couple of caveats:

1) The tuner is not cheap - last I checked they were retailing for about $1300 CDN. Your dealer may sell for less. Better yet buy from a US dealer they are way cheaper with the strong Canadian dollar.

2) You will need a US subscription - the good thing is you will also get the first six months free.

3) You will need an antenna - buy a Terk or Sirius one aftermarket from Best Buy or Future Shop for about $25- you can mount it inside the wing on the rear so it is hidden and you will get very good reception - better than the factory installed antenna from what I can tell.

I went with a lifetime subscription to save the hassle of renewal, etc.

Yes, I read your thread last night. Now my dilemma will be the $50 box, or the $1200 setup. Time will tell.

You wont regret signing the papers. You could always add one of them portable sirus units from like best buy or circuit city. The ones you can put in your car and take inside.
The door panels dont affect anything. Focus on everything it has to offer because once your driving you wont notice the panels.
Theres a full write up on how to install a back up camera so if that ends up being something you really miss you can easily put one on.

I signed up for the 6 months free Sirius and the satellite antenna quit working 3 days later. Iget an Antenna Error on the display. I have never taken it in to get it fixed and I don't feel as though I am missing out on anything.

Enjoy your new ride and welcome to what is the best place on the web for info on our great vehicles.

Thanks for the welcoming. I'm not new to Mitsubishis. I am a proud owner of a 1995 Eclipse GST project car that I've had since Spring 2004.

Mine is the red one in the middle with the CF hood.

I look forward to owning my first brand new vehicle, and I'm glad its another Mitsubishi. Now I have to scramble to ditch the 1995 Intrepid daily driver thats falling apart. [:@]
