I've had my 2008 Outlander XLS for about a month; in mixed driving, I have been getting 19.49 MPG or 12.07 L/100KM.

i'm getting just about the same but i look at it differently....
10kms/liter highway and 8kms/liter city if i'm easy on the gas pedal.
if i rev often beyond the 3000 rpm mark, then it goes really bad.

Default Getting to know you...

I just drove my "new to me" 2008 Outlander LS home last night, a distance of 330kms. My average speed was 102 km/h and my fuel consumption was 10L +/- .1/100km.
I found that leaving the transmission in "auto" allowed the vehicle to shift into 4th gear, often unnecessarily, when climbing a hill, causing the revs to increase over 3000rpm. Using the manual shifting option and keeping the transmission in 5th gear prevented the transmission from dropping to 4th without significantly compromising speed, thereby keeping revs down and improving fuel consumption. All of this was while using cruise control. There are +/- 33,400 kms on the odometer.

That also probably causes the torque converter to unlock, and therefore loses quite a bit of power through the transmission. So its basically as if you were in a lower gear/higher rpm anyways.

Had my Outlander SE 2.4L AWD for about a month now, too. On the highway I get close to 7.8l/100km (30 mpg US) and average 8.5l/100km (~28 mpg) for my 46 km (29 mile) commute. Around town it's about 10.5l/100km (~22 mpg)
