2006 V6 Clatter
Hello anyone and everyone,
I've just inherited a 2006 Raider with the V6 from my father-in-law. Free truck! It's got ~185,000 on the odometer and runs pretty great, apart from one thing: a horrible ticking/clatter from the engine at all times. From what I gather, he was rather lax with oil changes in the past, and this led to him getting the whole set of lifters replaced about 15,000 miles ago.
It almost sounds like there's a diesel under the hood! The sound is audible at idle, and follows along with engine RPM. It's least audible when the engine is under load, but as soon as you begin to coast it's once again present. You'll hear it when the engine is hot, and when it's cold -- it never goes away.
Is this a thing that happens to these older engines? I guess I'm looking for any fixes, or even suggestions on alternative engines I can drop in once this one finally kicks the bucket.
