Default 2015 Outlander SE ROUGH IDLE AC

Hello all, just joined and looking for some feedback. I just purchased a brand new 2015 Outlander SE AWD with the 2.4 mivec 4cyl. I have had it back to the dealer twice in the last 3 weeks that Ive owned it due to the rough idle it has when the AC is on and you are stopped at a light, in Drive position with the foot brake on. The tach registers 200 to 300 rpm bounces while the AC is on (500 to 800RPM). IS THIS NORMAL???? You can see the headrests shake!! Its very unnerving and makes me hate an otherwise nice vehicle. The dealer says "ALL codes are fine and it is functioning normally". I cant believe a 30k vehicle would run like this. I dont remember feeling any of this vibration during my test drive of another vehicle of the same. (mine was ordered in). Any feedback would be appreciated. Also any way of "tuning" it out? Raising the idle, increasing vacuum, anything????

I've never seen a car idle at 200 rpm in my life.. The idle is probably computer controlled but it's possible the idle air control isn't working properly but you would expect that to set a code...

I would go back to the sales floor and ask to test drive another 2015 with the same engine/package and see if it acts anything like the one you have.

In any case I would keep bringing it back to the service dept until they fix it properly, what your are describing shouldn't be happening on any new car.

If you put it in neutral or park while stopped does that change anything?
How about if you rev it up to around 900-1000 rpm while still in park/neutral does it smooth out?

Default Thanks

My outlander's idle fluctuates 200 300 rpm, from around 500 to 800 while in drive at a stop with the ac on. If I bring the idle up to 800 it smooths out. If I take my foot off the brake the idle raises to around 800 and the vibration stops. If it is in neutral or park the vibration stops. Any ideas on how to raise the idle? Even the tuning shop I called said that these mivecs can't be tuned? How is that possible?

The idle is completely controlled by the computer. It has a programmed desired idle RPM and then it adjusts the air/fuel to match that RPM... There is no adjustment.

Now that I think of it, it probably doesn't even have a separate idle air control since it's all drive by wire.

How about if you don't have your foot on the brake or the gas and the car is moving at idle speed with the AC on.. is it smooth?

I have the exact same vehicle...never had this problem..or any others so far. Mine runs smooth and quiet...AC on or off...its not normal IMHO...I would go back to the dealer and test drive another identical vehicle..my bet is you wont feel the same thing. Make sure you take a tech with you..and drive yours first so he can hear and feel it..then switch to the dealers car...they should be able to fix it..its a brand new car after all...best of luck and let us know what happened.

Check your battery's voltage. Replace if necessary. My 2010 had a rough idle to point of stalling. Same wirh you, no codes. It happens also when im turning the car and the power steering kicks in. I changed plugs. Still the same. Took it for a tune-up to a real mechanic. First thing he asked me was if I had changed the batteries? I said "No since I bought the car almost 7 years ago." He checked voltage and sure enough it was low and said that the battery is not supplying enough power to everything else. Lets changed that first and test. Well sure enough it was. It now runs like new. I'm not saying it will fix your problem but it might. Sometimes even brand new cars can have bad batteries. I hope you had sorted out you issues. Give us details. It will help a lot of other owners out there searching for answers in these forums.

I have a 2015 Mitsubishi outlander sport also with the same problem. I am looking at all of the information to see if anyone else has the same problem which apparently they do. And I’m still reading to see if they found a fix for the problem

Default same model, same problem

I have a 2015 Outlander SE, 36K miles, and have the same problem, when it idles the RPM start to fluctuate between 300 and 650 RPM, feels like it will stall. It gets more dramatic when the AC is on. I read some place else that it could be the battery. Also sometimes when I haven't started the car for a while, about 5 days, it feels like it wont start, and I always get a check engine light (code P0139), it says that its an oxygen sensor, it goes away and comes back on.
I'm planning to replace the battery soon, will come back here to confirm if the issue is gone just with replacing the battery.
