Default Greetings from the Great White North

Hello from Canada!

My current ride is a 2007 Saab 9-5. As much as I adore the car, the wisdom of driving a high km, 10-year-old Saab is becoming more questionable by the day.

I keep coming back to Mitsubishi in my car searches. I very nearly bought a used Lancer Ralliart, but then I discovered the transmission replacement is $22,000. Heh. No, not risking that, even if there's only a 1% chance of failure. I drove a Lancer GTS and liked it and it is so far one of the very few cars I've driven that I have liked. The only thing I didn't care for is the lack of telescope on the steering wheel. Everything else was good. Except for the wheel being a tad too far away for my tastes, I was comfy in the car right away. It's definitely a very solid contender for my next car.

That said, I am here to learn more about common issues with the Lancer GTS, about ways to get some boosties in HP, and anything else there might be to know. Ultimately, to answer the pressing question: Is the Lancer my next car? I've never had a Mits before, so I'm in new territory. I'm particularly nervous about auto transmission failures, as I have suffered a few of those in the past. Thus far, I have had:

1984 Toyota Camry DX fastback
1988 Mazda 626 GT Turbo 4WS
1992 Daihatsu Mira J
1991 Honda Accord LX (Worst money pit ever)
1998 Acura 2.5 TL
2007 Saab 9-5 Aero
