Default Hello all! '98 Montero Sport LS 3.0 in NorCal.

Hi all,

Just bought a '98 Montero Sport LS w/ a manual transmission with 140K. A great looking SUV! Look forward to learning a lot here!

Congrats and welcome to the club. I'm sure you can learn a lot about your Montero simply reading through the forums.

What plans do you have in mind for it by the way?

Well for starters, I need to fix a leaking output shaft gasket and replace the bearing there as well. And replace the tailshaft housing (whatever that is). Then maybe I can address the non-functioning speedometer/odometer/cruise control. All were working when I bought the Sport. Worked for about 130 miles...then KAPUT! The Vehicle Speed Sensor was drenched in oil from that leak. Maybe that's the cause of that particular malfunction? We'll see.

I plan on using it as a daily commuter (about 6 miles one-way). No serious off-roading plans yet. Maybe just some fire trails in the hills around my town.
