Hello, i am new to this forum, i recently purchased a 95 Eclipse GSX that has already had an JDM engine swap and has the big evo III turbo. everything else on the car is stock, one downside is that the car is an automatic, i am planning on changing that i am just working on paying off some other bills and such. I have many projects that i want to do in mind like body kit, rims, shaved door handles, 6 speed conversion. so i am sure i will have many questions for the future. thanks
welcome to the forum but i have a question or 2. you say JDM engine swap... what exactly were you told was in there? as for the auto-manual swap you are in for a long operation and a very expensive one at that. you will need a lot to do the swap (ex. manual gsx ecu, vr4 trani, shifter, cvaxels, shift linkage, etc etc) it's no walk in the park and if you plan on having a shop do it, forget about it. i was looking into doing the same thing about 3 years back and they wanted to charge me 7k to do it.
I would just go with a 5 speed swap. Its still gonna be alot of money. IMO i really dont like any body kits on the 2g. I love the stock look. But thats just an opinion. And as far as the JDM thing. That really doesnt make any sense since they would be the same thing. So im wondering exactly what the guy meant when he told you that. If he got it from an older eclipse or something.What kinda mods are done to it so far from the previous owner
yeah the engine was ordered off the internet, i am sorry about that the original engine had a bad bearing in the bottom end, he said it just happened normally, but i believe he was beating it and such, other then that its just go the evo three turbo, i realize that the car will be expensive to mod and such but i am getting into painting of vehicles right now and i already have some jobs lined up plus i have an ok job for no college and only being 19. i have been first looking at buying a turbo timer so that i dont ruin the turbo that is on it right now, just a question if either of you know, i talked to a mechanic and he said that it pry would be hard to put 18 x 7.5 wheels and tires under the car becuase it would interfear with the struts or i would have to just offset the tires? have you ever heard of that before or what would be an easy way to fix that problem, becuase i also have kyb coilovers to put on the car and tien 2 inch drop springs, other then that what would be some mods to go to next after the turbo timer, thanks for your help
From the sounds of it that guy beat the hell out of it with that 16g and became a victim of crankwalk. Im not gonna explain what that is just do a search. But im still wondering if he went with a 6 or 7 bolt. I hope a 6. Here is how you can find out, cuz it is kinda important to know. Just look at the oil pan.

Now the 16g on there is a very good turbo. And you dont necessarly need a turbo timer. Because you can do what a turbo timer does anyway but just letting the car run after parking for about 30sec. And that all it does. Do you have any pics because id like to see what this car has in the engine bay first. Cuz if its got a 16g then it must have alot more mods.

also, i'm curious what kind of boost you are running if you ONLY have the turbo... do you know if you have any suporting mods for it like a fuel pump, fpr, injectors, front mount, bov, or any kind of tuning device? if you plan on doing a body kit, 18" rims AND a 2" drop you will be dragging the ground just about. you can see the kit on my car, JUST w/ the kit and stock suspension i have to watch bumps, driveways etc etc. 1" - 1.5" may be a better idea...
i am going to like wash the car and get it out this weekend so i will get pictures for ya, the guy told me that other then the new engine and the big 16g evo 3 turbo there is no other mods, there is no tuning mods either, as far as other mods go i was not told anything so as far as that goes i am believing that everything is stock. i will have pictures up on sunday, i am new to the DSM scene and were i live there arent many places that work on the imports. but i will get you picks and make sure to see if it is a six or seven bolt.
I got my car out and waxed it and worked on it a little bit, i ordered a new boost gage, so my question is how much boost should the evo three turbo be running? also i am going to order a apexi gt downpipe, then if i order the exhust, will that just bolt right to the downpipe or do i have to make sure that its not full exhaust?
