Default Old but New

Hi everyone, Glad to see this place is doing so well. Hello to everyone who's new!

(This next part is me reminiscing about the forum, you don't have to read it if you feel it's too long)
I doubt anyone here recognizes me. For a little history on me, I used to have 1996 Spyder Eclipse GS. I did a 1g DOHC head swap on my Spyders 4g64, which was a decent upgrade. I planned to turbocharge the car as well, but eventually sold it. Now I drive a Camry... boring, I know. To get my speed fix, I now blast through Cinci on my motorcycle. Except in winter... which is now.

Anyways, I saw a lot of changes happen at this forum the two years I was actively here. Well, I don't think I was participating for a full 2 years, but I dunno. It's hard to believe that I first came here almost 5 years ago, well hard for me at least. I was actually the very first Moderator here (It seems I've been demoted due to lack of activity, heh, but apparantly I'm a fifth gear member, whatever that means). I won't claim to be anything special, I was only trying to help people out. Along with being the first mod, I also set a few records here. I had the first post count over 100, 200, 300, 400, and so on all the way up 1,000, with no trolling! One of my motivations for this was the lack of people returning to the boards due to signing up, posting a question, and then not getting that question answered. I would try my best to answer just about every question asked in most of the subforums, which in turn upped my post count. At first I was just trying to help out, but then I realized it spurred competition among some users and they started attending more regularly. This started the ball rolling, as this site before my intervention was quite vacant. This forum was also competing with all the other random DSM sites back then, so it was hard to recruit and keep new members if there wasn't much activity. Because of all this, I was offered the opportunity to become a Mod. There was so little activity on the board before that we never have a Mod and the Admin only visited once every few months. In fact, the number of active members was less than 100 when I was offered the mod position. With me having the highest post count (where most posts were helpful), having a loyal group of friends here, and enough respect from everyone on the forum, I thought it would be a good move to become the Moderator. I even had a term named after me: Spideyitis. Apparantly it refers to someone who becomes a mod and then abandons the forum. I didn't find out about it until a few years later, when I visited again. At that time, one of my friends, BurntGSX, had become a mod. He was perhaps one of a dozen people who remembered me. I don't see him now though... I don't really see anyone I used to know now.

There was a lot of stuff going on here when I left... but I was glad to see the forum growing. It's strange to look at it now and see posts that are only a few hours old in about half the forums (at this time of year). Actually, it's strange to look at it now because back in the day the forum actually looked different because it used a different format. I would say I preferred it the old way, but I suppose that's what I was used to. That was a while back though, and I guess progress requires change. There isn't a really good reason for me suddenly leaving the board...

Anyways, I'm glad to see the place is going strong. I can't commit to coming here regularly, and this may be my only post here for another year or so, but I hope everyone does well. Take care.
