the only reason they use auto in drag racing is because its more consistant, not necessarily faster. When ur running for a championship u want to run the same time always, thats why they use auto.

im saying that auto can be better also for street driving. Like mikes EVO which is only at around 400hp, is a PITA to drive around the street because of the clutch you need for it. So its not all about drag strip

I agree with all of you. But i think a little rule for clarification is needed.

Like TE was trying to convey.

400> = Better in a stick. Strictly for comfort reasons
<400 = Better in auto, for consistancy and comfort.

As always, there is an element to personal preference. If your thighs weigh 60lbs each then you wont have such a problem lol.

Also, sinse this is intended to be used as a street car, the only elements of the equation that apply are comfort, because the consistancy is only utilized on a track. So, if you are cool with a heavy clutch, then i say its worth just doing it. If you dont want that hassle. Then auto.

I understand that i cant really speak for the high hp cars, because i havnt driven anything major, and maybe thats why im a 'puritan' when it comes to my transmissions. I like to drive, not be driven. Also there is the added element of control or lack of. With a clutch you are able to correct and control a sudden loss of traction, an automatic transmission makes this more difficult. Just little things like that.

So, with that in mind, i guess you have to draw your own conclusion.

An automatic is always faster because of it's ability to switch gears almost instantly, and maintaning more efficient power band. And yes, it's a hell of alot more consistant then manual.

I suggested to keep the car automatic because as the auction displays, the platform of the engine is for high horsepower. It's obvious he's not settling for a 300hp. So i would say keep the automatic tranny.

I guess it's a matter of what engineer said. wether or not you have a high hp car. you'll see what a pain it is to drive, and how cars that are automatic are wizzing by you at the track. with less horsepower. And no matter how fast you shift, it's not as efficient. Just ask any real driver.

Dude racing an auto is ok for girls or consistant times at the track. Outside of these two things it puts you on the fast track to appearing as a douchebag or a poser.

[sorry man just call it as i see it]
