Hey guys, when im driving the car, i've noticed that whenever i let off the gas to get ready to change gears, i hear a loud screech comming from under my hood, i think its comming from the turbo. Is this normal or does this mean my turbo is going bad? Or could i be mistaken and its a completely different problem?

 

There are two things that can happen when i turbo is going bad. If your turbo has shaft play, you will get what is called the death whine. Which is a loud whineing noise while spooling up, not when shifting. The other would be if the shaft seals have gone. Then youll end up with oil in your IC pipes and/or intake pipes. So to me it doesnt sound like the turbo. Does the sound go away when you press is the clutch?

 

It almost sounds to me like something wrong with the blow off valve or dump tube... check for a leak somewhere around there...

 

Might be compressor surge?

Can you show us a picture of your engine bay?

 

I've been driving it today, actually its just whenever i left off the gas, so would that be the blow off valve? i'll try to upload a picture tonight if i have time

 

It might just be the sound of an aftermarket blow off valve
