Okay.....I have a 1997 Eclipse GS-T andwhen I first heard the noise, I had no idea what it was. When I looked at the engine, I would rev it so that I would get some boost and when the car came back to an idle there was smoke coming from my turbo and out of theexhaustbut the noise went away. So I bought a complete turbo gasket set and replaced all gaskets thinking I blew a gasket but when everything was put back together it was still smoking from the turbo and the exhaust. Now when I rev it up it makes a whining noise from the turbo and smokes like crazy. I don't know what else to do, thinking I need a new turbo.

 

What the noise sound like? If its whining or whistling it could be on its way out... Either way it sounds like you may need a new turbo.. But just wondering what the noise sounds like that its making..

 

Pull the intake pipe of the turbo inlet and check for shaft play.
