WILL SOMONE PLEASE HELP ME! OZ RALLY QUESTION!
Ok, so, i'm new to this forum, and i'm barely 16, by the way, i'm michael, just to make it easier. Anyway, i am about to purchase an 02' Mitsubishi OZ rally lancer. This is preaty much the car i'm heartset on. Anywho, i have a couple of questions.
I know, this might make some "professional tuners" mad, but we all know that the OZ rally is stock with 120 hp and 130 ft-lbs of torque. that is pretty much my limit for a factory car, insurance reasons. so, my insurance will not rise with mods.
Well, my plans are going to involve performance first, then appearance. I have saved up around $7000 dollars, but i will allow $4000 dollars to spend on my car for now..
So, now for the questions... I want to get my car to around 225+ hp, and about 200 ft-lbs of torque, or more that would be great! so being a tuner noob, what do you guys suggest i do? i will definatley be Forced Induction. so what will you guys suggest to buy with my budge? i know that intake and exhaust will be suggested. But what else do you guys suggest i should also look at? i need ideas, and i am willing to spend more money if necessary.

Dude, with that kind o fattitude, i have no problem with you. You have more brains than most of the noobs anyways. Make sure you get it in a stick
Okay lets break this down. In order to achieve that you are going to need a basic turbo setup. This will actually fit within your budget. You are going to need the turbo kit (about 3500 im guessing), then you are going to need a new clutch to handle the added tq (350 for the clutch, and the install... who knows), then you are going to need to tune your new a/f ratio. This can get expensive.
As if you havnt noticed, yes, im trying to talk you out of the idea. Even if you get all these aspects taken care of, there is still the added possibility that you will destroy the engine, because it was not designed for boost. And if you want to get a set of low compression ratio pistons, and decent rods, and build the motor, thats going to be over 3k right there too.
My advice to you, is to get an Eclipse GSX. I know,i know, they are a lot older. However, if you play it smart, and get one with a built motor and or built tranny, it will be rock solid, and it will save you a lot of money if and when you plan to modify it further. Not to mention you will have 220hp right off the bat.
Or, if you really like the style of the Lancers, why not save your *** up for an EVO? You really arent that far away. I have seen them as low as 16,000with only 50k miles on them. Not bad eh?
If you still have your heart set on turboing the Lancer, good luck!

Hey thanks, thats some good information.
But, yeah i have read about the Lancer as a hard to "modify" car. But, since i have to pay for insurance myself, i'm concerned about that.
My dad told me that, to just stay in the 100's/month i have to stay below 160 stock hp, then i can modify or whatever. Then, my friend let me drive his lancer and i loved it, but i think i will back out of the purchase of my lancer, and think about it a little more, just to make sure what i want.
With that said, does anyone have any GOOD to modify cars that are less than 160 base hp car for me? i don't have a problem with older cars...

If you want to save money on insurance buy a honda, your not gonna have a fast car and not get away w/ paying for it.
Since your young buy a beater and save your money for something else when u get older, it will be a better investment.

Well, with the insurance, you dont NEED to list all your modifications to an insurance company. However, if you want your mods to be covered under the insurance then you will need to, or if one of your mods gets messed up in an accident, it will be up to you. Nobody, and i mean NOBODY ever insures their modifications unless they are totally stupid.
well, yeah,. i get what its about. So, i'm going on a test drive tomorrow. i hope it has good handling and performace for stock..
Anyone ubject to this car, has anyone had any hassles o anything with the car..
Pors//cons, would be great. later.

Tires will last longer, handling is generally better, traction is much better.... and you can get forced oversteer
Im tellin you man, the only way to get power out of a 4 banger is turbo.
