RE: 3000gt stages
Well stages are refering to the company that makes them. For example... some companies will make a stage 1 clutch that can hold 300hp and 250lb/ft tq. Yet another may make a stage one that can handle 400hp and 300lb/ft tq.
Its just something that companies use to try and make it easier for people to understand. Although nobody ever does.
it goes from stage 1-3 usually but every company has different specs for their stages.

I'm going to tell you something that was told to me LONG ago before I started modding cars.
The BEST thing you can do is RESEARCH. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH! If you go out and buy X cam because they claim a 50HP gain, then buy X valves because they're "proven" to give a 15HP gain then you end up with a 4HP gain with both products you can thank improper research.
Figure out what works well with what. Just because they claim XHP gain doesn't mean YOU will see the same #'s. EVERY engine has been broken in differently, acts differently, and runs a little differently. Read about all the products, look around and see what others have used and the results they have achieved. Find out what works and what doesn't. When you have the #'s, fact, and figures THEN buy your parts. It may be expensive to get the right parts but getting them one at a time then installing them all at the same time will save you a BUNCH of time, $, and head and heartache.
Other than that I recommend starting with intake and exhaust. Let that engine breath and your power will go up quite quickly.

Also if you dont know how it works and what makes it better/worse or more efficient then you will be unable to decide for yourself what is best for your car and you will end up making the wrong choice most of the time.
If you cant find something in the search button then ask a n00b question. Then you will never have to ask again.
My best peice of advice i can give to you is educate yourself!
