bastards they are!
you can also get H from aluminum in a solution of Sodium Hydroxide.....but you still need electricity to make aluminum from bauxite ore. Theoretically though, this could be done with a solar station in your back yard....or you could sell the Aluminum Oxide back to Alcoa....saving them money on processing from raw ore. The problems with H are....
it only produces like 6 BTU, it has to be stored under pressure...and you need one hell of a lot to compensate.
Hydrogen is just another way for energy comanies to keep you coming back to the pump. You really think they're going to get off the teat?

While I agree that the cars are by far not the only problem, they (when producing less emissions) quiet up all the powers that be givng them less to bitch about.
Im willing to also bet, that the emissions that are NOT being produced by the old Honda electric cars (the kind that had to be plugged in) are being doubled by the COAL burning plant that now has to produce that much more energy to repower that same ****ing car. Totally going back to your 'great circle' concept above Seb.

I have read that even with burning coal that electricity is still more fuel efficient and produces less poluttion. Some environmental group came out last week and said that all the cars and coal plants combined are not as big a problem as livestock...So, a lot of what we have been hearing for the past 30 years about energy and automakers is BS. apparently, the real threat is cattle farts. But I say it still doesn't hurt to have cleaner air and water.
I read something else like if we covered 7% of the state of Arizona with solar panels it would power the entire country. But it would take 40 years to recoup the expense of doing that.
