A little off topic... Camaro
Before y'all go crazy on me my second car was a 1992 Camaro RS with a 308 V8 and only 9K miles on it. I couldn't pass it up for $6k. Anyway... I got tired of the ****ty fuel economy and the crappy RWD in the winter so I got my 96 GS-T. My dad bought the Camaro and we're looking for mod ideas. Any first steps for making the 'maro faster for newbies?

It's a small block Chevy, you can do a million things to them. It is the most popular engine in the world to build. You can buy books, research web sites or go to speed shops for help. I would like to see you start your own research using these sorces of infomation and decide on your budget and what you are looking for out of the engine. ( STREET USE, low end torque, High RPM horsepower ) You have so many options with these engines and many people will tell you things that they really don't know about. ***For Example " Put a high rise intake and a large 750 cfm carb on it" as I was once told some years ago.
There are many books on how to build a small block Chevy and I think that's your starting point.

^^^ lol a carb on a efi motor FTW lol. Anyway the key to power is how much air you can move and how fast you can move it. Personally I would do a turbo project... becuase I love FI. But if your looking for bolt on power then ya, intake, hedder, exaust, and a dyno tune for some hp.

308ci? Is this a 305 bored .02 over? If you are not in smogville, go bigger with a 383ci (350 with 3.75 stroke) or 400ci motor, get some displacement, or better go 454ci or 496 (stroked 454ci), or if you have the cash go with the LS1 and get all the electronics off a newer car. I've had slight problems in the past with being able to get enough cooling when getting to the 450hp to 500hp area, but others have done it successfully, but this was on older cars, before '81 when they did not have computers in the engine controls. With the computers you may be opening a big can of worms unless someone knows what they are doing.

Ya the 305 has to be the worst small block to build up. The combination just plain sucks......if you plan on doing anything to it first get a good set of heads, that should be FIRST. You best deal since it seems like you really don't know much about building this older stuff, just go with some package kits from say edelbrock. They'll sell you a kit that has everything you need from a cam, to heads, intake exc. and don't put a 750 on a 305, WAY to big get a nice 650 if you plan on doing that.

money and experience will dictate what mods you do more than what you choose as preferred mods. If you can do the mods yourself, you open far more doors, but since you are asking what mods to do, I assume you don't want internals. Tell us a little more about the car- auto or manual trans. Is it really a 305 (5.0L) TPI or has it been made into a 308. US GM did not offer a 308 c.i. motor- that is a chrysler family engine. Any current mods? What is your goal with the car?
