Default Parvovirus

This is one of the saddest things I have experienced in a long time. Myfriend has a 6 month old pitbull-bull mastiff mix. Her name is Riah. He has had her since she was8 weeks old. Riah has has come down with parvovirus, and virus that attacks her immune system and gastrointestinal tract. Three days agoshe washappy, excited, playful puppy. Now she is on the verge of death. She can barely move and cannot eat, and is unable to absorb water or food. My friend and I are doing everything we can for this poor pup to try and get her immunity up to fight the virus. We took her to the vet, but she couldn't do much except tell us we needed to take her to Syracuse to the vet hospital. It wouldcost over $1000 for her stay plus IV and blood transfusions for her dehydration and the gastrointestinal bleeding, and he only has $200 to his name. Sadly, it's not an option.

Shegot parvovirus because she neverwas vaccinated for it. He was told that she had her shots, but obviously not for Parvo. He haslost his job, and he is being evicted from his home very soon. He had to sell his car to feed himself and his puppy, and now this. He is going to be absolutly crushedif his pup dies. I feel so bad for him and the dog. For the last 4 months, Iwould bring my dog over to his place everyday after work so they could play.I have so many videos and pictures of themrunning aroundand being crazy. They were so happy playing together. She is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever been around. I really love her, and watching her die a slow, miserable painful death is unbearable.

Parvovirus crushes the immune systemlike AIDS in humans. It's much more common in puppies because they have a weaker immune system. It's a terrible way for a dog to go, just terrible. Make sure to get yourpups vacinated.

This is a picture of Riah taken alittle over a month ago. That evening we took our dogs fishing. Riah saw a fish and jumped in the lake.

Parvo is a deadly disease that is often not vaccinated for. Since your buddy doesn't have the money to get the pup treated, have it humanely put down.

sadly, no my friends dog didnt make it. he was suffering for about a week and then one night he fell downhill and passed. although it is very hard to do, i agree 100% with thestealth, have the dog humanley put down, it is hard to do but it is in the better interest of the pup. he is just going to suffer a long time, and without treatment he will not get rid of the virus, it will just get worse. thats what happened with my pals pup, we couldnt afford to treat him and my pal couldnt stand to see he put down, he thought the pup would make it, but he didnt. very sad situation, but you have to do whats right for the pup

i'm way to familar w/ Parvo. a looonngg time ago prolly close to 5 or 6 years now me and my friend Jason were feeding a dog down the street from me that looked neglected. skin and bones, barely had any energy to get up, no water, no food, the owners were NEVER home. me and my friend jason started putting our money together to buy food for this little guy. well we were feeding him for about 2 weeks and he was up and moving a lot more than he used to, was getting meat on his bones, and just looked like a happier, healthier dog. well about a month down he road apartently the dog contracted Parvo. Well once this happened the entire neighborhood came after me and Jason for giving the dog tainted food and we were the responsible ones for giving the dog parvo. Well after about 2 months of everybody in the neighborhood the owner of the dog came fourth and said tha the mother of the dog had Parvo and basically got us off the hook but these people were literly about to press charges against me and him. crazy situation for a 15-16 year old.

that really sucks man. i agree with stealth also. it may be really hard to do, but if you dont have another way out of it, putting the dog down is the most humaine option. my dog was about 3 years old and got cancer last january. she was doing fine for about a year, up until around last christmas. my dog was always extremely energetic, she never lost the puppy mentality that she had since birth. however for her last month or so, all she wanted to do was lay around and sleep. keep in mind my dog was only 40 lbs, so 3 years old is still very young. but one day out of nowhere, she started crapping and vomiting blood. we took her to the doctors and they said it was time to put her down. as much as i miss her, im glad we did. it was heart braking to watch her suffer like she did. but still to this day im glad we made the choice to put her out of her misery[X(]

Or before doing that maybe think about taking up a collection for the cause? I know I'd toss a few $'s to help a pup in bad shape. My roommate had a Corgi. His liver went south and he had become toxic to himself. She put herself in debt keeping him going and 2 days before the transplant was scheduled he passed.

I'd suggest getting the pup to the vet hospital IMMEDIATELY if she's going to survive and then start taking up collections to pay for the bill afterwards. They aren't going to ask the bill be paid up front. So there is some time financially but physically it's running out!

Riah passed yesterday morning shortly after I started the thread. My friend is completly heartbroken. It was the worst thing that could have happened to him. That dog was the only thing that mattered to him. He is inconsolable. We miss Riah so much. Any thought or memoryof heris enough to bringa tear tothe eyes.

When his pup started to get really sick, I told him that he should consider putting her down. Naturally he didn't like that idea, and he decided to make her comfortable and try to help her.The night before she died, she started eating again, but it wasn't enough. He wanted to bury her at his mother's house where his childhood pets are buried, but his mom and stepdad wouldn't allow it, apparently because they are evil. So we found a nice, quietspot out in my backyard, and we buried her.

Thank you all for your responses.
