If you purchase and STR-4 you're up for disappointment, not to mention it's a sin. My cousin works at a Dodge Dealership and said the engine is cool but the rest of the car falls apart. I agree with Emonz, wait for an Evo to show up and then deal with them. You'll end up paying a little more for the EVO than an SRT-4 but when you blow the doors off the SRT-4 you'll smile and be glad you purchased the right car. Remember, not only is the EVO fast but it takes corners as if they were straightaways...

Plus STR-4s....They a F**king Neon. I don't care what you have under the hood, it's a friggin Neon!!

EVO's Look better, Handle Better, Sound better, and When you pass the dealership it doesn't look like a bag of Skittles split open and spilled.

damn a lot of hate here. i own both an eclipse and a srt4. i bought the eclipse about 5 years ago and just went over the 2 year mark with the neon and still havent had a single problem with the neon and the eclipse hasnt had to many problems compared to the other dsms in my area (its actually my comuter). before i got the neon i had a 515hp 95vr4 which was awesome but didnt last long. and was looking into getting a 03 evo but after test driving 3 of them and a neon the same day and imo the evos just didnt compare stock4stock and for sure didnt make sense paying the extra money at the time. in my area they wanted 38.5k for a new evo and after they found out a family member worked there it went down to 27.3k and i got the neon for 22k out the door.

If i was in your shoes id probally get a 1st or 2nd gen eclipse and put some money in to that, they do break a lot but since they do there is a large used part market and a lot of people parting there cars out. If your not down to spend the money dont get a srt4 and dont even worry about an evo since the inital cost will set your modding back to much (even though a stock neon or evo is faster than a lot of cars you will race) If you were going to go crazy with mods and get a lot of hp id say go evo because they dont require as much skill to drive at higher hp but be prepared to spend $$ to get there.

if you have any ?'s for a neon owner let me know.

edit for spelling.

WTF are you talking about. Doesnt require as much skill to drive at high hp. What do you mean? Its like any car, its still hard to handle the launch, it just takes practice. IMO i really hate the SRT-4. To me it sounds like **** no matter what you do. The engine cant handle the power that an evo engine can. And your talking about the money issue. I believe to get an SRT-4 to the same as an evo (not talking stock but just what you get out of easy mods) it is probably about the same.

As an example, Emonz spent only 23k or something to buy his with low miles, then only spent alittle over 1k in mods and his car will run a mid 12sec 1/4 mile. Im not sure but i dont think you can say that 1k in mods on a srt-4 will get you that. Also i think the awd is 10 times better than FWD. Nor will an SRT-4 EVER have the potential of an evo.

awd doesnt require skill to launch at all. ive owned a 11 second vr4 i know. trying to put down 300+ lbs of trq which comes on as low as 2300rpms on a fwd car isnt easy.

in drag racing awd is better than fwd but rwd is the best. talk to any serous racer and they will tell you the same.

in 03 there wasn't much to do to either neons or evos so putting up big #'s wasnt an issue yet but now adays both sides are doing a lot of great things with a I4 which i love to see.

as for emonz great for him thats awesome that he pulled that out with so little money. i didnt want a used car that wasnt broken in by me if im going to drop 20k+. I have a friend who works on base with me and has an 04 srt4 and pulls 12's with under 1k in mods. they may be ghetto as **** but he can drive better than anyone ive meet and he maybe a hot head **** talker but he puts it down. hes been trying to get me to use his set up for some time but its not safe enough for me to chance with my car.

your last sentance is just ignorant, neons made the 10's im sure an evo has as well. neither are the fastest cars so no reason to act as such.

yeah its pretty dumb when hes on boost. i really like my exhaust set up and it was pretty cheep too. i have the borla cat back and a friend gave me a 3" catless dp when he got a custom exhaust. its really deep for a 4cyl and not to loud during regular driving.

I agree with you and (cant remeber sn) but i really hate the way srt's sound with most mufflers or **** cans.

engineer what do you drive?
