PLace to buy a computer?
Well some of you if not most of you know I'm in college. I'm majoring in Web Design and figured it's about time to start getting serious. I'd like to get a Mac for the graphix work I'm about to get into. This term I have 3D design. Next term I have Web Layout and the term after that Animation. Then I get Digital Video. So I'm looking to get a computer I'll be using for strictly graphix and nothing else. Anyone have some good sites and sources for one? I'm trying NOT to spend thousands on one either. Thanks
Well....For what ive seen the mac book pro is what I would go for, because it seems the best deal, but things might have changed since I was researching this......When I was looking I actually found better results when I just googled it...I'ts gonna be hard 2 find one without spending thousands if you get a Mac....i'll look in2 it some more!
yea an apple is definetly the way you want to go. And you could get it from some other places other than apple, but i would suggest just going right to the source because they will make sure you have the warrenty on it and they usually have good costumer service as far as getting things fixed.
One of the things I liked about the Macs is the abundancey (At least it seems so) of the dual processor motherboards. Rarely see that with the intel setups. I currently have a 1.5 GHz with 1Gig RAM, a 256meg video card (I can't for the life of me remember what brand card I know it's ATI but I can't remember exactly the card just know it's the highest I can go with a AGP card). and a 10 and a 40 gig HD, DVD burner, CD burner, and a CD rom. Drawing tablet and plenty of fun software. But knowing what I do it seems more and more a Mac is the way to go. I also have an iPod and subscribe to the Photoshop podcast and Mac is ALL that they use. Even with the decent system I have at the moment my PC bogs BAD when I run any of the Adobe software and I'm cringing thinking about what Rhino and Flamingo will do to it.
XTREME what do you mean by "Get a PC and run both systems"? Also what programs do you find good for web design? So far the classes I've taken I've been using Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Director, and just starting learning Rhino 3.0. Next term I start the animation course so I'm not sure what software I'll be using there. Then I go to digital video class...

my computer i have is a custom case, with an AMD 939 socket motherboard, 2G's of RAM, SLi 7900GTX's = (two vid cards, fast rendering and gaming, aslo when using the gaming engines like unreal 3), 7.1 THX sourrand sound, AMD 4400+ 2.4 ghz dual core, with AMD optimizer, if you're doing mulit tasking get a dual core either with mac, or intel and AMD, and make sure it has hyper threading as well.
you'll save a lot of money on newegg, they also have mac stuff on it as well. my simular computer from alien ware is close to 3 grand and i put mine together for 1800 bucks.
What I have at the moment is what I care to deal with PC wise. I just picked up a Mac Powerbook with a G3 for 29.50 lol. I figure it'll give me something to play with once I get it to turn on. Maybe I'll even get it to run something or other. I know a G4 or higher is the way to go for graphics right now but I'm working within my means. My motherboard on the PC at home doesn't support dual processors so I'll stick with a single until I can afford to upgrade the PS and board at once. I also just picked up a 250 gig HD and gave it 3 partitions. I'll be installing Linux redhat on one of the other HDs in it (I have a total of 3 HD's and 1 is partitioned into a total of 3 so I have 5 drives mapped at the moment just in the HD department).
