Everybody into racing cars was a teenager at one point (some still are) and have street raced. Unfortunately, this is one of the risks we all take. I feel sorry for the kids parents but this stuff happens. You can make laws and take other actions to prevent it but in the end each person makes their own choice and in turn has responsibility of their life.

well put. However i just have to wonder how the hell someone looses control that bad. I admit that i have done a few races, but i always do it in an area were i am comfortable in know there is alot of room and always stay within my limits.

Well on a public street in the middle of the day it probably wouldn't be too hard to lose control. This is just speculation, but this is how I see it happening in my head. The kid in the eclipse sees the cobra "weaving in and out of traffic" and decides to floor it. gets up next to the cobra on a two lane road with traffic coming at him, sees that he's about to hit somebody at high speeds, decides hit the cobra instead of the oncoming car, and loses control and hits the utility pole.

the way I see it, if you want to street race and risk seriously injuring or killing yourself, thats the individual's decision, but at least do it on a empty street outside of town, or whatever, with no chance of hurting anyone else. when you do it on a public road in the middle of the day with traffic all over the place, you are putting other people at risk which no one has the right to do.

and the next time one of those cops who was at that accident see an eclipse or a mustang with an exhaust doing 4 miles over the speed limit, they are going to pull them over and start writing tickets.

That or the other way around. The 'stang was aboutt o hit oncoming traffic and tried to slip in in front of the Eclipse, clipping the front end and spinning hime out and into the pole.

Reminds me of how a friend of mine died YEARS ago. He was driving with a total of 5 people in the car. 3 in the front (Driver, his GF, and his brother) and 2 in the back (Another brother and a friend). Truck going below speed limit on a 2 lane rd. Passing zone so he decides to do just that. Starts passing the truck. Truck decides race time. Car coming the other direction leaving my friend 2 choices. Hit the car or take a left into the ditch/someone's front yard. Well he took option #2. Hit the dtich, flipped the car. Driver and GF ejected through the windshield (No seat belts). Driver DOA passenger (Driver's brother) broken back paralyzed from the waiste down. GF they didn't even KNOW she was in the car she was thrown ACROSS the road and lie in a field until found. Broken hip and 2 or 3 shattered vertibrae. 2 rear seat passengers came out unscathed both were wearing seatbelts. All this from some asshat that decided he didn't want to be passed. The kicker? The asshat never stopped. Kept right on truckin as my friend's car went tumbling in someone's front yard.

Damn, that is terrible. That peice of **** in the truck probably would have faced murder charges. I feel fortunate that I have never lost a friend to a car accident, but I am afraid that I will sooner or later. It seems inevitable. I am a assistant at a personal injury law office and I see and hear so many terrible injurys and storys, and we deal with alot of wrongful deaths connected to DWI's. People are so careless. Its very sad.

Damn, that car is wrapped farther than I have seen before... he had to be moving pretty quickly for that to happen. You always hope a lesson will be learned from these things happening, but it seems like they never hit home until it's you or your family.
