Default Engine occilating, no power in drive or reverse

My 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer (automatic) is experiencing recent engine rpm occilation in park and neutral, between 500--1500 rpm. When gearshift placed into drive vehicle is very sluggish and won't increase in speed beyond about 15 mph, even when accelerator is fully depressed. When the car is placed into reverse, engine continues to occilate and vehicle will not move nor will the engine rev. I've checked the oil, trans. fluid and all look full and clean. Air filter could use replacing but not terribly dirty. No knocks or pings with the engine. It feels like a clog in fuel filter or no vacuum. Any suggestions what might be wrong? Thanks.

'limp mode'

it doesnt really help you now, but next time buy an old car with a manual box and no electronics.
