If the timing is off, its probably gonna need a cylinder head at the least. I'd do a compression test to see what condition the engine is in.

k so got the car and heres the news.... it turns over just fine gets spark backfires but doesnt start. spark on plugs is not consistent and is very irregular.... there are about 6-7 plugs that arent plugged in to anything and i dont know that they all need to be either though since there is no ac..... so i guess new questions gonna be, since theres spark backfiring and plugs unplugged; possibly a plug or two, clogged cat, or ????? causing the issue.... also the oil had quite a bit of gas in it, enough to ignite it on dipstick.... thanks in advance

Can you post pics of the connectors not plugged in? Also check to see if the fuel injectors are firing. These cars are know for jumping timing belts and ecu's leaking caps.

I really doubt its a clogged cat, a car w/ a clogged cat would most likly start just lack power. If you want to email me pics shoot me a pm.

If the timing belt is off most likly the valves are bent. Try rotating the crank and if it locks up you'll know.

dude it turns freely and cranks with ease it just wont start..... the guy i got it from said the way to do it manually for the timing was to adjust the cps on the head while jumping a plug in the engine bay but he didnt know which one.... do you know which plug it is

Yeah I know what plug but the car has to be running to do that. That plug is to ground the ecu when your adjusting the cam angle sensor. It wont start the car.
