relases the air pressure from your turbo when you let off the gas quickly or change gears so you dont damage the turbo. makes a pss sound on most cars but its harder to hear on eclipses cause the air is routed back into the throttle body
Ill explain it anyways LOL Blow off valve releases the air that would be built up after the throttle butterfly closes redusing compressor surge and enlonging the life of the turbo, and in Mitsubishis's it isnt re routed to the throttle but it is re circulated to the intake just after the MAF because the MAF has already calulated the air and if the BOV lets it go the ECU doesnt know it and stil adds fuel for it, which means more fuel than air and the car runs bad between gears if that air is lost.
