Trunk won't open!
Hi all,
The trunk on my 1999 Eclipse has not been opened for over a year. A real pain especially when you have a flat. Key or inside release won't open. Any ideas how this can be opened from the inside? There are two holes near the latch on the inside, but I can't find anything that moves! Any help would be much appreciated!!

RE: Trunk won't open!
It releases with either the key or inside release, pops open a 1/4 of an inch then its like a safety catch or something catches and you can't open it the rest of the way. Used to be able to pull real hard and it would open, but not now!
Thanks

Sounds like the struts are froze up. Youre gonna need someone to upen it up and replace the little strut things on the inside there. It should be all good after that.
Way to go Sk8, her name says "chick" in it, so you call her a dude, lmao.

RE: Trunk won't open!
My trunk does the same thing... what i do is put the key in the trunk lock, go and pull the trunk release inside the car then go back and turn the key to get it to open.. sometimes i have to try this once or twice but then it works..
dont understand why this is the shocks hold the trunk open fine and have no problems with it creaping down while open.
worth a try if it doesnt work maybe try having someone pull the trunk release while you are turning the key.... I think that its something in the lock not the shocks at all

RE: Trunk won't open!
i think johnnyred might be right.
ive got a 98 gs and if you pull the lever on the inside it only opens like a 1/4 of an inch, then you can go like lift up ont he trunk and it wont open, but if you pull the lever again you can open it, or you can turn the key and hold the key open and it opens.
but idk yours sounds more like strut problem..
