Well, last week I raced an S2000 and this week I raced a 2005 Chrysler 300C (0-60 6.3; quarter mile 14.0); looks like a box. Anyways, my girlfriend and I were coming back from seeing Cinderella (no I wasn't ecstatic about seeing it) and I pull up at this light. Then this Chrysler 300C pulls up next to me with two teenagers in the car....where they get money for these cars I don't know. Well, they aren't looking my way so I didn't think anything of it until they start smoking the tires. Seems they were showing off to a couple of girls next to them in the other lane (3 lane road). Well, the girls yell out "to me" NICE CAR!!! So the two guys look over and it begins. The light turned green and they blasted away and I ignored them totally. Then, later down the road they slowed down to 60 mph riding next to my car. So I downshifted to 4th and took off an they followed. I would say by 120mph I was a car and half ahead. We then hit another red light and I raced them from a 10 mph roll which was interesting because they would gain a little and then my turbo would kick in and I would pull away a little. Even though I won both races by a couple car lengths I was surprised at how quick this car was and it wasn't the SRT8 version. The S2000 I raced last week was slower than this box!!

I certainly didn't think they were that quick...and they definately don't look it. I guess that's they the kids were screwing around with you. Nice kill!
Are you not able to shift at high enough RPM's to keep the turbo in the "sweet spot"? I thought at like 3000 RPM's the turbo begins to pull pretty hard, or is it just low boost at that point?

You are doing something wrong. Have you tried feathering the throttle to keep boost between shifts? That will put lots of space between you and those 2 buckets. I also have a regular cab Hemi pickup and I can smoke an S2000 from a dig all the way past 100! And my truck weighs 5000 pounds!!! Try practicing takeoffs and shifting at Irwindale on Thursday nights. It will help you learn better to race against others in a safe environment. You can track your improvement by how much your E.T.s drop. Good luck.

I'm not by any means saying I did perfect racing the Chrysler 300C. There are some driver improvements that still need to happen when racing my Evo IX. When shifting from 1st to 2nd and occasionally from 2nd to 3rd I can't seem to get it right yet (this happened when racing the Chrysler 300C). Sometimes I'll burn the clutch....have to get my stickin foot off the clutch faster I guess!! [:@] It's crazy because the 1999 Civic Si I used to drive was a breeze to shift and I never had trouble. ...practice makes perfect so I guess I just have to race more!! :D

usually between shifts you just dump the clutch so you dont burn it up.

I agree, I never rode the clutch out in 2-5. That is likely creating slower times than your car has potential for, but then again, I've never driven an EVO[&o]

me neither.

Yeah, You're right about the shifting problem. Sometimes I hit the clutch perfectly and it still grinds. You should also try revving a bit on the line to get the turbo spinning.

Off the line I really don't have problems. It's mostly shifting from 1st to 2nd that kills.

Did those kids seem to get a good launch or did they spin them alot? And yes, where the hell did they the money?

I have one small problem with your story. The 300C won't spin the tires. It may chirp for a second but it won't spin. The Electronic Stability Program works with the traction control and will retard the engine or apply brakes when it feels wheel spin.
The SRT8 has less aggressive ESP to allow more driver control. Thats why they always use them for drifting and burnout photo's.

You can dissengage ESP but the traction control is on all the time.

there is an on off switch for traction Controll I belive so with it off you can spin def.

no you cant :)... the only way it can be turned off is by making the car spin out causing an error in teh system and fully shutting it off :). My brother has the samr thing on his G35 and has to spin out for the traction control to be fully disabled.

ya but it is chrysler my dad has a crossfire and it HAS a traction controll button where he can turn it off and then the tires all of a sudden break lose im sure other chryslers have this option. some other cars use a chip or fuse for it and that is the only way to kill TRAC control

crysler have it so u cant turn it off fully... the brakes still come in when the back goes out... i know that also from an episode of top gear.

wow my point exactly DEF NO TRATION CONTROL turned on there. Incase you have never tired spinning tires with TRAC on you can but then the car sounds like a clutch slips and you feel the power dissappear and come back slowly untill the tires have no more chance of slipping that is def not the case there:eek:

Thats the thing with a "stock" 300C. You can only turn off the ESP. The traction control is always on. The ESP keeps your vehicle from getting sideways on you. The traction control keeps the wheels from spinning out.
I drive these cars every day, unless it's been modded somehow, the SRT8 is the only one that will let you spin like that video.

i would like to retract part of my statement about the 300C. Feeling curious I took one our 300C's out for a little test drive to validate what I knew. I launched with ESP turned off and it chirped but hooked up pretty quick with no spin.
I then tried it by flooring the gas and then applying light brakes. She stood still and smoke billowed out from my rear fenders.
So to correct my statement, the 300C will do a burn out, just not in conjunction with a race since you have to hold the brake.

Oh, and by the way, if you buy a black 300C from my dealership, your back tires won't last quite as long as your front ones. Must be a manufacturers defect :D
