Hey there,
I'm working on this girls 95 galant, with the 16 valve 4 cylinder in it. will doing a "tune up" (new belts, check plugs, change oil) she also mentioned that the car was shaking when ever she would try to "take off". I took the car for a test drive & sure enough when giving the car gas from a stand still it will putter along until it reaches about 15 or 20 mph, then it runs fine. If you are already under way & punch the gas it responds well. after further inspection I notice that the motor will "putter" even when out of gear & at idle it even seem to occaisionally miss. So I checked the plugs & wires - Good, I added some Tranny fluid & cheked the belts. I really don't know what else to check but would really like to get this fixed for her & make me look like a champ, hell I might even get some if I fixer her up good ;)
Lastly the car has 127k miles & never had a timing belt changed. I leaning towards timing belt myself

Any help is welcomed

oh, I also put some 'Seafoam' in her gas to help clean the fuel delivery system - no change.

Thanks,
THomas

Timing belt might be a good idea, but probably not the problem. Not sure though. But i hope you get it fixed. If you do post your fix for future FAQ.

well tried cleaning the throttle body, changed the plugs, again. the problem still exsist . I inspect the distributer cap & rotor both look worn, thats my next thing.

Plug wires - Changed 'em now it runs fine. Well it seems like it's lacking power but I'm comparing it to my Moms '92 with DOC - that car would get it. I've seen 145mph in the '92 several times.

Anyhow thanks for your help guys.

i had a problem like that all because i was using platinum plugs. NGK plugs are the best. a new rotor and a distributor cap can help
