View Full Version : Endeavor XLS Audio Head & Ipod
tidge 02-06-2005, 01:49 PM Hi-
I'm trying to figure out how to hardwire my IPod the the audio head on the Infiniti 6-CD Changer system of my 2004 Endeavor XLS...
Has anyone here had any success doing this?
If so:
1. What is the make/model # of the audio head on this Infiniti system?
2. What adapter hardware did you use to enable and where did you get it.
Crutchfield (who has all the audio head information) wouldn't tell me the info. - and yet they didn't have an adapter to fit it either... they were trying to push me to buy an afternmarket stereo system upgrade instead...
However, from what little I've been able to find on this stock Infiniti system in the XLS and Limited models, it appears that the audio head unit is integrated with the climate controls (as they are both displayed/operated from the liquid crystal screen...)
I pressed Crutchfield about this and they said that according to their database, there was no issues with upgrading to an aftermarket receiver but according to Car Audio Magazine, there is... they say the reaciever and climate control are definitely integrated....
http://www.caraudiomag.com/specialfeatures/0408cae_oem/
See table at bottom of article...
Anyways, I wondere what to do... I do see that there is a DIN input of some type on the back of the audio head... but I don't know what it is for... I did not purchase the navigation package with this vehicle, so I suspect it may be the input for the navigation module I don't have...
Anyone have any ideas?
Thx.

mjross33 02-06-2005, 04:36 PM I've taken apart my center console on my Limited. It is pretty easy and you'll see that the climate controls and audio system are not really integrated, except for the controls in the face plate. To take it apart, engage the parking brake, turn the key far enough that you can shift into drive (without starting the car) and then you are ready to pull it apart. To pull it apart, grasp the center console on either side as far down and back as you can. Pull firmly and the clips will release and it will come off. Then pull the from the top and you'll have the console off.
You now need to disconnect the cable harness for the seat warmer controls (if you have them) and the climate controles. You can then set the console aside. To get the stereo out, you need to remove the dashboard display to get to one nut in the back. Its pretty easy, just a couple of screws. Then its 4 screws on the front to get the stero out. You'll see a 13 pin connector on the back that is availble.
Here is where I've been stumped. I could by an RF modulator to plug into the antenna jack, but I'm looking for something more. I bought a 13 pin aux input connector and plugged it in. That gave me RCA inputs for my MP3 player (I'm using a Rio Karma). But I can't figure out how to get the stereo to recognize it. I was hoping that the 13 pin jack was for the DVD player I didn't get and it would automatically over-ride the CD changer. No dice. So I am stumped and looking for someone with a bright idea.
The head end is a Matsu****a Electric (they own Panasonic), model #MR570499. The aux input converter is a Kenwood brand.
Good luck and let me know if you come up with anything.
tidge 02-07-2005, 01:30 PM mjross-
Does your limited have the navigation package?
If not, what do you think of this specualtion?
The 13-Pin din is an S-video input for the navigation module that will interface the navigation maps, etc. on to the liquid crystal screen stock on the car.... the 13-pin then would only used with vehicles equipped with that navigation feature...
The two inputs on the far right of the back of the unit are Left & Right stereo inputs - for the DVD player used on models equipped with that feature...
If this is correct, then the inputs on the far right would be the audio signal inputs we would need to use... we'd need to find a compatable signal converter for whatever those odd looking RCA style plug inputs are... Have you seen inputs like this before?
What do you think?
mjross33 02-07-2005, 02:03 PM S Video is a 4 pin configuration, I don't think that is what the available jack is for. I don't have the navigation system and didn't know they offered one. Can't find anything on their site, where did you see it?
The input on the far right is for the antenna. The other may be for some version of a mini plug (like for a walkman), but I don't know. We need to find someone with the DVD system and have them tell us how its hooked up.
tidge 02-07-2005, 07:53 PM Actually, the Nav system looks like it was a one-off for an Endeavor concept model they did - don't think it made the production nodel though....
I am in the aftermarket business and we have similar MP3 player hook-up kits that we sell for Land Rovers...
We get a number of aux converter boxes for these kits from this company...
www.pie.net
I am checking with them to see if they can provide something that will work with that 13-pin connector on the Endeavor... I suspect that the Kenwood-type you tried does not convert at the right modulation for the matsu****a audio head (if that 13-pin input is indeed a standard aux input...) we'll see what they say... I do notice they do not list anything specifically for Mitsubishi vehicles, however...
tidge 04-24-2005, 12:39 PM Well... I spoke with the mechanic at my Mitsubishi dealer... he said the 13-Pin input on the back of the Endeavor XLS/Limited audio head is an additional amplifier input... It's NOT an auxiliary audio input... that matsu****a audio head does not have an auxiliary audio input... so you cannot hardwire an MP3 player to the stock stereo on an XLS or Limited vehicle.... have to go with an aftermarket stereo to do this...
goatghost 11-23-2005, 08:39 PM I know this thread is old, but, from what I can tell by looking at rear view diagram of the head unit which I found on the web, the 13-pin DIN connector is actually a "CD Auto Changer 13P DIN Socket".
http://carstereohelp.net/wireharness_Mitsubishi3.htm
I am looking to add RCA inputs to my Rockford Fosgate stereo in my 2006 Eclipse and it has the same type of jack on the back of the head unit.
Surfbits 01-23-2007, 11:19 PM I understand this is an old thread, but I had something come up relating to this. I purchased the OEM iPod adaptor for my Endeavor 06. I had the installation department at Best Buy put it in for me and now the SRS lite on the dash came on and will not go off.
He has tried unhooking the battery cable for 10 minutes, but to no avail.
Anyone have this happen or heard of it happening?
Thanks
lockuplever 01-28-2007, 01:52 PM The SRS light seems to come on (and stay on) everytime I remove the stereo. It's happened twice now. I point it out when I take the vehicle to the dealership for an oil change, and they turn it off.
thejones10 09-02-2007, 08:50 PM Has there been a conclusive answer to the 13 Pin connector on the back of the Head with the built in 6 CD changer model #MR570499? Whatever it is for, there should be some documentation for its purpose and I would like to knowfor certain before I settle for FM modulation.
RMUDBUGS 09-04-2007, 05:23 PM To hook up the iPod to the 6-disc changer you have 2 options.
1. Part # MZ607411EX - iPod Adapter - Charges iPod and interfaces so you can use the radio controls to control the iPod functions. List for $199.95.
2. Part # MZ360135EX - MP3/iPod Cable - Plugs into the headphone jack on the iPod. Does not charge or interface. List for $19.95.
You can get them at your local Mitsu dealer.
thejones10 09-05-2007, 02:21 PM Is Item #2 a wireless FM modulator or is this a cable for the 13 pin socket on hte back of my Head? The reason I ask is if it is for the 13 Pin plug on hte head, how is the Radio input changed? There is no aux on my unit. It is either Radio or Built In CD. no other choice?
RMUDBUGS 09-05-2007, 05:00 PM No it is not a FM modulator. It plugs into the 22-pin connector on the back of the radio.(pins 2,3,13)
To play: Plug in device then turn on. Press CD Button for 2 seconds(AUX will be shown on vechicle display). Start playing the music by controlling the portable audio player.
thejones10 09-05-2007, 08:22 PM OK, now I am confused. I called the dealer to order the part and they advised that the part is not for my 04 Endeavor XLS. I also looked at the back of the Head and there is no 22 Pin connection (unused). So you must be talking about an In-Line cable that goes in betwen the existing modular connection. Why the dealer claims it is not for my vehicle is another thing altogether.
RMUDBUGS 09-06-2007, 01:47 PM Tell the dealer to look up Parts Bulletin No. Al-XX-01-07
Ask them for the part # of your radio. Have them look it up by your VIN #.
Part # 8701A045 uses MZ607411EX
Part # 8701A110 uses MZ360135EX or MZ607411EX
Or call me at ORR Shreveport Mitsubishi. Direct to parts is 318-524-3244. My name is Ronnie.
thejones10 09-06-2007, 06:46 PM No go Ronnie,[&o]The pinpouts on the back of my unit are not matching your description of a 22 Pin connector

RMUDBUGS 09-07-2007, 10:09 AM Ok, lets try one more thang. The installation instructions for the cable say 14 pin/22 pin connector depending on the radio. Try these pins on the 14 pin connector.
Black = pin 14
Red = pin 13
White = pin 12
Pin 14 is the bottom left pin. Move to the right 1 for pin 13 and to the right 1 more for pin 12.
This is how they look when looking at the pack of the radio.
7 6 5 4 3 2 1
14 13 11 10 9 8
thejones10 09-07-2007, 01:33 PM [:o]Jeez Ronnie, I pluged it in as you indicated and the black smoke started pouring out of the unit. I started to inhale the smoke and got high. So high that I decided to write back and scare you. Just kiddin, I am going to try it tonight, should take me 5 min to hook it up.
RMUDBUGS 09-07-2007, 01:54 PM Let me know how it goes.
thejones10 09-07-2007, 05:16 PM Not so well Ronnie, the connector I have that best resembles you picture alreaady has a Black wire in the harness on position 12. Only 13 and 14 are open.
01 02 03 04 05 06 07
14 13 12 11 10 09 08
My other connecter with 14 pins looks more like this
010203-------0405 06
14131211--10090807
RMUDBUGS 09-07-2007, 11:36 PM I sent you a email. If that does not help than I don't know what to do. Good luck. Let me know if it helped any and if it does then fell free to post those pics here for others.
pingman27410 09-18-2007, 09:56 AM Ronnie, I have an 06 LS model with the stock radio. Any idea if there is an aux input possible to interface in the back of the radio? I would love to connect and external sat radio to the system.
thejones10 09-18-2007, 02:17 PM Hey pingman, take out your radio and look at the back of it. If it looks like the picture attached in Post #16 then you have the same unit as me and it will not work. If on the other hand you have a different layout, it will likely work with the cable that RMUDBUGS referred to in Post #17
RMUDBUGS 09-18-2007, 02:30 PM Is it the single disc player or the 6-disc?
Your options.
Single Disc player has only one: MZ607411EX witch has the iPod plug. It charges and intfaces with the radio. List $199.95
6-Disc player has two options: MZ607411EX same as single disc.
MZ360135EX witch has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Does not charge or interface. List $19.95
RMUDBUGS 09-18-2007, 02:37 PM Or call your dealers parts department with your VIN# and get the part # for the radio.
Part # 8701A110 uses MZ360135EX or MZ607411EX
Part # 8701A045 uses MZ607411EX only
If you have a differnent part # post it and I will see if I can find any info on it.
pingman27410 09-18-2007, 05:45 PM Jones and Bugs...
Many thanks for the advice.
thejones10 09-18-2007, 09:27 PM Good Luck Pingman, I hope you have better luck than me. Attached is the reference material provided by RMUDBUGS. In my case, my radio does not have a 22 pin connector as illustrated for the 6 CD changer and the 14 pin connector is also nothing like the illustrated. If you need help with removal of the radio, I can provide you with the necessary instructions. It will take all of about 5 min to get the radio out and all you require is a Phillips (Star) screwdriver and a 7/16 socket.

DavidE 09-30-2007, 11:56 PM I have an '06 with the single CD stereo. I can't stand not having iPod access. $20 for the cable with no charging and no radio control would be just fine for me. But is the $200 interface the ONLY solution? That's awfully expensive. At that price, I'd be better off putting in a new radio with a USB port, an iPod interface and better sound!
tophergreen81 10-22-2007, 12:01 PM Well as said before I know this is an old thread but I found this and it has great reviews and I was wonder if anyone else has tried it. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?i=142FMMOD01&tp=1287
I hope I can post links.
Thanks

thejones10 10-24-2007, 05:46 PM I just installed it and it is not very good at all. The issue with the exact unit you referred to above is that the input level from the Device is significantly lower than the signal from the radio stations. The result is that you adjust the volume of the Audio device to Maximum and turn your stereo up to a suitable listening level and then when you change to another FM station, the level is too loud. The other issue is quality. It is not even equal to the quality of hte FM radio signal in my opinion. I must admit that I am not using an actual Ipod MP3 Player. I am using my Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS/MP3 player for the Audio output but... this is a very high quality MP3 player and the sound output is as good as any other.
khaosking 10-30-2007, 05:24 PM I need to know how to remove the radio (6 cd changer) from my 06 Galant. Would someone please send me instructions? The information has been helpful here so far.
rganders315 11-14-2007, 04:55 PM I think you can just pull on the Fascia. That part of the car basically snaps together. My Endeavor pulls right off. Then the actual changer is held in place by 4 screws.
BE CAREFUL, not to unlplug anything you dont have too. The SRS light could come on if you do it wrong and then you have to take it in to have it reset (just made that mistake myself).
4mer4runner 01-02-2008, 11:50 PM PINGMAN, RMUDBUGS - I just went thru this exact issue...2004 Endeavor, 6 disc Infinity. Purchased MZ360135EX cable only to find that i also have the 14-pin connector, NOT the 22-pin as illustrated in the instructions. Went back to Mits dealer and they went thru a ton of manuals and notices and it turns out they could not actually find anything pertaining to the 2004 Endeavor. Actually, let me clarify...they could find nothing that relates to the head unit model # MR570499 Seems 2005 and 2006 have several options, one of which is about $200 and allows the Mits unit to control the iPod with titles on the display, another uses some "box" for about $50 and then there is our little $20 cable. i was willing to try some of these other options to see what works but they would not guarantee that I could bring back unneeded parts.[:@]
Anyway I have the odd 14-pin connector (6 pins on top row separated with 2 "spaces" and 8 pins on bottom row. My pins 12 thru 14 are open on that middle odd connector. I plan to try this this coming weekend. Wish me luck and have the fire extinguishers ready :D Honest - f anyone has a red flag please post telling me NOT to do this.

4mer4runner 01-02-2008, 11:54 PM and here is my cable. Thanks for all of the great info here. maybe this will not all work out, but without you guys I doubt I would have gotten off the ground at all [sm=smiley31.gif]

4mer4runner 01-06-2008, 11:17 PM Well, I tried it. DO NOT have the 22-pin connector like shown in the instructions that came with the 3-pin to 3.5mm jack stated...instead I have the 14-pin connector as shown for the other vehicles without 6-disc changer.
THAT diagram shows to use pins 12 thru 14 so I did...in all possible combinations. No dice...bummer. On the good side, doing this did not catch anything on fire or cause any additional issues and everything went back together fine. I have one last gasp...found another Mits dealer semi-locally and word has it that the service manager is a whiz-bang audio guy. I will be checking with him tomorrow.
On the other hand I can report that the Alpine ex-10 that I installed has a pretty damn good FM transmitter and the audio is probably about as good as I have EVER heard via FM trans. Still would be nice to be able to take it's audio out straight in to the head unit.
I'll let you all know what/iff I find anything with this service manager
4mer4runner 01-07-2008, 04:08 PM Alrighty - got a hold of the Service Manager I mentioned. Told him about our odessy and his immediate reaction was "that won't work on Endeavor prior to 06". The 3-pin to audio cable that we are trying to use, according to this guy, is for the Outlander and a couple other vehicles with Infinity system.
He says that for our Endeavor...2004 thru 2006 with Inifinity 6-disc....we need the module that connects to the head unit via that S-Vid-looking connector.
$200 [:@] But I am going to try it...assuming they will agree to take it back if it doesn't work. Keep in mind, this module does NOT allow the steering control to run the iPod...it simply gives you an audio IN
Mits Part # MZ607411EX
Any one that know's of an issue with this please let me know before I go to all the trouble
RMUDBUGS 01-08-2008, 02:22 PM Do you have the Nav system.
We tried to put that in an 07 Endeovor with Nav and never could get it to work. Good luck and let us know.

Ok since there isn't any clear answer for the 04 XLS Endeavors with the Infiniti headunit with the built in 6 disc changer.
I bought the Mitsubishi Ipod adapter PART#MZ607411EX .
My headunit part# according to my VIN# by several Mitsu dealers in the Orlando area is MN15160 and none of them could find or verify if the Ipod adapter would work with that headunit. I went ahead and bought the adapter and proceeded to install it.
IT WORKS! Very easy install, just didn't expect to remove so many pieces of the interior just to install the adapter. Connect the Ipod and hit the "CD" button 2x's to access the Ipod interface. You press either the CD disc buttons 5 and 6 to shift through the albums and per 100 tracks. You just connect the Ipod, no functions are done through the Ipod itself. All track and volume adjustments are done on the Mitsu headunit and the steering controls work to adjust volume and scan through the tracks.
Just to touch base again. This was on my fiances 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor XLS with the Infiniti system with the built in 6 disc changer in the headunit. The headunit part#MN15160.
echo117 12-11-2008, 08:51 PM I know this thread is OLD as DIRT but i've been going around for about 6mo.s trying to figure out a solution.
I own a 05' Galant GTS and my radio looks just like the one on 4mer4runner's picture above.
The only difference is that my model reads MN-141260.
So in the case that the "only" logical solution would be to buy the $200 harness or cable or whatever it is . . .
IS this the same one?

chupichupi 06-03-2009, 04:40 PM mitsupartsman, I have an original W142 radio (part number MR337279) in my Mitsubishi montero 2007. In the back I have the 13 pin conetctor and the 14 pin conector showed in 4mer4runner photos (post #33). It is SINGLE CD radio.
Question is, can i use the part MZ607411EX ipod adapter in that radio?
If so, when you conect the device, can you acces the music from the ipod or only from the comand buttons of the radio unit?
Can I use the part MZ360135EX that plugs into the headpone jack of the ipod?
TINITO 09-19-2009, 01:18 PM I just installed an I pod Interface on my 06 Galant . It has a single disc radio/cd unit with a part number 8701A045 and I installed the factory interface part # MZ607411EX . Everything works fine except for one thing, It does NOT charge the Ipod . I've tried plugging 3 kinds of Ipod (4th generation Nano, 2nd Generation I Touch , and Ipod classic) and all of them dont charge. "Charging is Not supported with this accessory " is the only thing I'm getting when I plug in an IPod but everything else works . I noticed there was a power wire that come off the unit but on the directions and the dealer said, its only used when hooking it up to a 6 disc changer .. so I need help if anyone had the same issue .. thanks..!
