Default Transmission Internal Filter

My 2002 LS does not have the external spin on transmission fluid filter (small version of oil filter). I have about 129K miles on it and changed the fluid once and I think I should make another fluid change again. Should I consider dropping the Transmission pan and changing the internal filter when I change the fluid again ?

Is it worth it ? or just change the fluid again. No transmission issues.

Thanks

It appears there is significant work to be performed in order to change the internal transmission filter. At least it appears beyond the weekend DYI mechanic. If anyone has done this please post a procedure. I drained and changed the transmission fluid and therefore was also able to clean the drain plug of any metal contaminants that had built. It was a surprisingly small amount. I consumed 2 gals of transmission fluid in the process using Valvoline MAX ATF.

RE: F4A51 Trans filter location?
you car does not have a servicable filter. The early cars did have a secondary external screw on filter which was deleted around 99, as it proved to be more trouble than anything due to peoples neglect.

the internal filter is designed for lifetime service, and you need to remove and disassemble the trans if you wished to replace it... but it doesnt need replacing.
all you need to do to maintain the trans is drain and fill it, which is how nearly all automatic transmissions have been for decades.
